HI, just off topic, I was wondering how reliable are the New 2008 Chevy Impalas? Do they just start breaking down after 50k miles? or do they last like the V's?

With any Chevy product, former GM Tech. most Chevy's start having engine brake and some times suspension problems at or around 40k. The last few year working at the dealer we had a lot of Impala's come back for warranty work at least 2 times a year some were in the shop for weeks trying to fix problems.

Even the police Impala's weren't immune to some of GM's bugs.

They may have improved quality but I would check some of the Impala's boards to see what type of reliability they are experiencing.

Are you planning to keep your Versa or sell it to get the Impala?Good luck on your search.

Tho I've only had it a few days, i just bought a 2001 Cavalier with 76k miles and the motor is still really good.. I had my friend at the Chevy here check it out since he works on them for a living and he said as long as i keep up maintenance it'll be good well past 100k..

I'd wait until the car sees another redesign, or go for a Malibu instead. The new Impalas aren't bad, but the new crop of Chevys that arrived just after the Impala was redesigned (Impala seems to have just barely missed that boat...) are a step up in comparison. The Impala still uses older GM powerplants. The next design will likely make use of the Cadillac-derived 3.6 liter V6 twins which are EXCELLENT motors. The latest Malibu has the EFI version of that 3.6.
