A couple more days...

When i went in last Thursday to take a look at it, the rear quarter dent was gone, and they were starting work on other dents on the car. They also had an old 510 there that was being worked on at the same time. Kinda cool to watch two different old cars getting facelifts at the same time.

Stopped by again today to check on the progress. The rear is now basically ready for paint, as well as the driver's side (there were other dents and things to remove). I forgot to look at the front, which was really the only other major problem spot.

In any case, the shop owner says I might get it back on Saturday now.

Be patient every one. Good paint and body work is worth the wait. I know because I used to paint cars in my younger days.

And now, for what you've all been waiting for...

Linky to a short video...

And pixorz...

It's now Black Cherry Metallic, which is a little darker than the original maroon, and looks DAMN good on it. It's not a show quality paint job, but for the price I paid (which included a LOT of dent removal), I think it looks great. I also need to wash it, because these pics were taken with the dust from the shop environment still clinging to it. Though if I remember, you're supposed to let the paint cure for a while before you wash it.

The bumper is currently sitting in the passenger seat. It was removed for some of the front end work, and couldn't be put back on because one of the dents they removed caused it to interfere with the dented bumper. I'm going to find a place to send it off to either as a core for an exchange, or to have it fixed so I can put it back on.

Apparently the car was catching the eyes of several other customers who came in to pick up their cars, and the painter said it was his favorite project in quite some time.

Sweet! I like the color, I bet it looks even better in person. I know one thing, you wouldn't fnd a classic car up here in Minnesota in that condition (before paint job). The salt we put on our roads would have eaten it up.

Because the paint on the top was starting to go, plus there was a small dent in the top that was fixed... and having it repainted two-tone would have been an extra $200.

And then I would have had to find a paint that goes well with the metallic... since non-metallic whites don't go that well with metallic paint.

Soon to be new: Wheels!

Well, new-ish.

$60 craigslist specials. Ford (well, Lincoln actually...) 15x7 5x4.5" bolt pattern "Turbine" wheels, ford emblem stripped by the current owner (a Mopar guy). Decent condition, minus the peeling clearcoat. I'm planning to strip the wheel surface, then repaint and clear them.

It's been a REALLY long time since I updated this thread, but in a nutshell here's what's happened...

Got the right rear turn signal fixed so now I have turn signals again. Still no brake lights or rear running lights. Bought, disassembled, cleaned, repainted, and reassembled a set of '69 AMC Rambler hubcaps. And the big new thing for me to play with...

I bought an engine over the weekend. 304 bored over .040. Was given the wrong heads with the engine, but I should soon have the correct ones. It's partially apart, with the heads and intake manifold removed. Since it's already most of the way torn down, I'm going to finish tearing it down and make sure everything is good to go from the bottom up.

I won't get into the long specifics... that's for my thread over on the AMC owners' board... but you get the idea.
