Well, last week I had intended to take my Am to the local burger joint's weekly cruise-in for its first public appearance, but the poor weather had me taking the Versa instead. I wasn't the only one with the same idea last week... the only two cars that showed up to that one were the owner's, and their in-laws.

But this week was different. Still cloudy as crap, but at least it wasn't raining. So I hopped in the Am and drove on down, to see if anyone else would show up this week.

So, first... for those that need proof that I DID actually get out... here's my Am sitting next to a Buick Roadmaster.

There were just shy of a dozen cars that showed up. The following pic was of the 3 most interesting cars that were there when I showed up:

The car on the right belongs to the burger joints' owners. The car in the center is somewhat interesting... it's an '81 Chevy Malibu wagon that was shortened in the middle by 24 inches, and made into a 2-door wagon, with a big ol V8 stuffed into it.

But the most interesting car to me, especially since it was built from a LOT of parts scavenged from other cars (with some custom fabrication as well) was the one on the left. Here's 2 more pics.

It's a '23 (?) Durant Star Four coupster that was converted to a roadster. Other than most of the body, not much of it is original Durant. The steering rack and gas tank came out of a Tercel, the rear suspension is Subaru, the front suspension is custom-built from Ford parts, and the kicker... an odd drivetrain for an odd car. It's a 351 Cleveland... but not a FORD 351 Cleveland. It's a BRICKLIN 351 Cleveland. The guy found a wrecked '75 Bricklin SV-1 (the 1000th Bricklin produced, no less) and took the whole drivetrain.

An odd thing I learned today is that some Bricklins used AMC running gear from stem to stern. He says that when they changed over to the Ford-sourced engine and transmission, they still used an AMC 20 rear. I have no way of confirming this, as I can't find information specifically about the rear end used in the '75 and '76, but it was a very cool car nonetheless.
