STFU!! (<--heh heh, apparently that's been used on this forum alot lately so I figured I'd jump on the band wagon).I don't want to talk about the plot too much incase other people here still want to see it.
Something just looked weird at the first scene. It didn't have that "movie film camera" look. It looked .... just off. Weird lighting and video quality. It had that quality that is TOO good for a theater. I dunno, hard to explain.
I get the same feeling with most CGI. It's like the people animating it just want it to get from X to Y, without considering all the random little motions and random little effects on the way.
There was a CGI-intensive movie a few years back where there was a brief scene with a car. The car slowed to a stop, opened the door, some (live) actors got out, then the door closed and the car pulled away.
The scene just *looked* fakey, and when I took a look at closely it was because there was no effect of the motion on the car rather than to move the car. The car's nose didn't dip when the brakes were applied, the people getting out didn't make the car rock slightly, and when the car pulled away from the curb, the nose didn't rise when the "driver" hit the gas, nor did the wheels turn slightly as the car pulled back into the main road.
Not something you normally notice, but when it ain't there, it makes things look wrong.
Another thing the animators do is light the objects perfectly. There are always areas on an actual object that are in much deeper shadow, and natural objects pick up a bit of diffuse lighting and color tone from the other things around them. But the CGI is always perfect....
