I just upgraded my RB20DET drivetrain with an OS GIKEN Twin Plate Clutch, a Driveshaft Shop Aluminum Driveshaft and a KA/RB transmission after the transmission Blew on me. The car now feels like a new beast. Does anyone run a twin plate setup and does it make a lot of noise ... mine sounds like ginsu knives when I start it up ... LOL

Its a sprung clutch ... It grabs just like I like ... a very nice sporty feel. It would be a little soft if not for the new one piece aluminum driveshaft. You feel a lot of response from the car during acceleration. The plates chatter a bit when the clutch is pressed in but once in gear the noise goes away ... and in nuetral there is no chatter ... twin plates are just a bit noisy ... that the only side effect.once you break in the triple plate Zilla you won't have any problems ... LOL ... I definitely recommend the upgrade ... both parts ... clutch and driveshaft. I pulled on a camaro, a turbo supra, and a SRT-4 since last nite before I went through the mountain passes last nite to play with the new setup.

I'm always ready for a meet ... I know a few other guys that live in Frederick that will definitely come out to meet with us. The one guy has a S14 with an RB25DET Let's Get It On!!! Who wants to do the honor of posting in the meet section so we can find a common meeting place that would be easy for everyone. We could get a scene going in Western Maryland ... LOL!!!

Are you rebuilding the motor??? I was thinking rb25det when I bought my rb20det, but I went with what was most appealing to my pocket. I'm not disappointed cause the engine has been responsive with the minor mods like hard piping, front mount, boost controller, clutch, driveshaft.

I have not had an unsprung clutch yet ... I hear that they are pretty intense since it pretty much on/off setup.

I have a os giken twin. I have yet to use it but it should be nice with the os giken pivit, bearing, and fork that I got the other day. I still have to get a nismo slave. That will come after I save enouf $ for the 18" volk gtp's I want for my ride. Os giken clutches are highly rated in japan.

I bought a pivot upgrade, but using stock fork and remanufactured slave ... I'm having no problems ... I will upgrade that in a month or so ... I'm trying to get my exhaust and intake manifold installed, 57 trim turbo IHI Turbo and 550cc injectors done first ... HEE HEE ... see how that drivetrain holds up after that ... LOL

haha what i found funny was that the nismo pivot ball looks NO different than the oem one. i had a brand new oem one cuz it came w/ my oem front cover (had to get this to convert my transmission from pull to push). compared the 2 pivot balls and they basically look identical except for some slight color difference.

yea its been rebuilt... still need to put most of the accessories on it before i plop it into the car. its sitting up on my stand now.

i thought the difference between sprung/unsprung was mostly ease of pedal control and stiffness. well i guess thats what makes it the on/off setup if its so tough that you cant control your leg to slip clutch hopefully it wont be too harsh.. otherwise i might have to run some donuts and smoke them every time i get moving

Welcome to the world of twin plate chatter. I had the choice of installing a OS like yourself or a HKS twin; I choosed the HKS. These are noisy when the clutch pedal is pressed, but quite in gear and in Neutro.

This is still something I must master in the street since it almost has no slip. Come check out my setup in my page.

PS I did not go with an RB!

I will be peicing together a triple when the current three puck takes a crap on me. I like the interchangability of the OS clutch. I got the the disk cage off a Supra clutch and swapped it for the original twin cage on my RB clutch.

If you guys do a meet in Maryland Viginia or D.C. somebody fire me an e-mail. I am in Northern Virginia till July.

Very nice ride river57!!! I wish I could see that in person ... That is what I have been thinking about doing for like the last half year or so when I was buying parts for my car from a cool dud in Thailand ... He was talking about how they run 2jz/1jz 240s over there .... also 1jz/2jz BMWs.

agreed. nice swap... if only the 2j didnt require so much customization i would have done that instead. more displacement and easier to find replacement parts. also no steering column/downpipe clearance issues
