I have been reading many forums since I joined but have not found any information on original air suspension or digital dashes in infiniti,s.
I have a 1991 Cima which I believed to have the same equipment as the 1991 infiniti. But maybe this is not so. Can anyone enlighten me.
Cheers Neil

:welcome: to NICO!

I'm pretty sure that we had a Cima equivalent in the US until 1997.

I think Heath meant to say the US saw no CIma/FGY33 until 1997 when it was introduced to replace the G50 Q45.

Dont you mean introduced to fool the public? No different than if Chevy decided to stick Corvette badges on Camaros!

Thanks Guys,

Badge Engineering. Nissan sell the Y32, Y33, etc in Japan called Cima, Leopard,Gloria and Cedric. same cars different finish levels.
Anyway my dash has issues and I cannot find the control box. The 300ZX guys say theres is above right knee area but not so in the Cima.
Does anyine have a Q45 with a digital dash?

I've never seen a Q with a digital dash... probably a JDM only option. They kept all of the really cool stuff for themselves :D

Similar platforms, but with some subtle differences. FGY33 and Y33 are different, although many parts will interchange.

Have you pulled the instrument binnacle?

Damn! Just wrote a big long post and it disappeared.
Short version.
I will pull whole dash tomorrow and let you know where the control unit is.
My car has suspension issues. I will return it to factory but in the interim does anyone know what stronger springs I can fit to replace the light airbag ones?

As far as I know, the only Nissan with any kind of "alternative" suspension we've seen in the US market is the active Q45. It was a system of hydraulic shocks and a ton of sensors. This is actually an air suspension? Sounds really interesting... we need pictures of this car :D

You guys must never sleep or some of you not in USA?
OK, the Cima came out with air suspension and active suspension as well.
The air was the basic suspension and the active was stability control for corners etc. See this link (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Cima)
I will take some pictures when I can.
My trouble is twofold, someone has removed the airbags and just left the lightweight springs that surround them in place.
The other problem is my active suspension takes the car right up and keeps it there.
So I can release the active susp but then the car sits VERY low or I can leave it up and virtually no suspension, only the tyres really.
Long term I will fix it all. Short term I am hoping to find a firmer spring to use.
This is another interesting article http://activesuspensionsystems.com/whyforq45.html

I have now had the dash out. Followed Daniel's Article Q45 Removing Dash as a guide but reversing his procedure somewhat.
The dash itself has the control module mounted on the back of it.
Took it to an electronic repairer, paid $93.00, put it back in only to find the same problem. It only works when warm. Not sure of next action:12 volt hair drier? :)

Heat sensitive parts are usually diagnosed with freeze spray so that you can target individual components on the board...

I'm not sure if that could be done in this case or not. I'm not sure how an electronics repair guy could diagnose and repair it without a schematic of the circuit and some experience with the part... is it possible for him to test it while it's in the car with the cover off?

Yes, thank you. I am aware of the procedure. I think I might tackle it myself using contact cleaner as coolant and hair dryer for heat. There wont be much room to work though as cable length is minimal.

Contact cleaner might work, but I'd feel better with the real stuff... the beauty of it is that you can pin point components without having a liquid that can run off on to other parts.

Now that you mention it, it might not be readily available anymore? I see a couple of listings on your eBay, but I'm not sure if it would be available locally or not. I've been using my dad's stash that's at least 10 - 15 years old. Who knows what refrigerant is in there :D

This will be my last post here. I have secured a replacement dash locally. The faulty one I managed to trace the fault to an area of about one square inch but have neither the equipment or expertise to isolate the part. I think it may be a surface mount capacitor, too small for my soldering skills.
I have a friend who is a retired electronic engineer who built some of country's first computers. He has offered to look at it.

As for the suspension, Wikipedia may have misled me on the air suspension. What I am going to do is put struts on from a Nissan Leopard. Same car but no active suspension.
Thankyou to all who contributed help and opinion.
Cheers Neil
