my tools are a mess.

I dont have any of those cabinets or anything just yet, so basically everything that I have is thrown into big canvas work bags, in their original boxes, or lost...

I was hopin some of you guys could share some of your tool organization secrets - specifically with sockets. The set that I have is so bad, they're all laying sideways in this big plastic box, so if I carry the thing by it's handle or if I tilt it slightly, every socket gets jumbled up and lost inside the box. I fixed it sorta by stuffing a peice of styrofoam in there to keep everything pushed in it's spot, but I need something better! What do you guys do?

i got one of those cheapo tool sets in a carry case from wal*mart and replaced the (sae) wrenches with (metric) craftsman ones and the (weak, broken) ratchet handle with a (uber leet) craftsman one. my friend works at sears so i got a discount w00t.

the tools dont' get lost cuz they snap into the case. and there's a place for everything so if there's an empty space i know right away if something's missing

If your car isn't running for 10 months, the windshield makes a great place to put tools. You'd be amazed how much you can stack up there until it all slides down into the engine bay :D This has prompted me to look for a new, bigger, better tool box :(

Ive put all my tools on the wall. Just take lots of nails and start hammering away thats what i did and it turned out very good, I even outlined the tools so i know what tools go where. If you go to wally world you can buy some socket holders that you can nail up on the wall or lay them in a tool box also. They even have locks so the sockets dont fall out.

Tool control, I love it!!! I can't stand going to shops and seeing tools thrown in a drawer without knowing what goes where. Guess its left over from my days in aviation.

i have a medium sized 18" steel tool box (black) from craftsman. it works out nicely. inside i have little plastic containers like for sandwhiches that hold my other bigger sockets like deep wall and 15mm and up. then i have a bigger plastic container with adjustable compartments for all the smaller sockets. i fit just about all the small sockets in there. my tool set comprises of like 173 pieces or something, a big $200 set i got for $100 because of xmas sale :). it works for me, although i havent gotten down to labeling each of my little compartments so i know if i lose anything. i still need to recheck all my sockets bc when i helping my friend drop his s14 i might have lost some :(. anyways, hope that helps.

What works pretty well for me a WDRacing is to line the tool box drawers with foam. That way you can cut out the tool outline and you'll know when something is missing. That way, you aren't at the track launching and trying to firgure out where that damn stubby phillips went. You can get the foam from liek Sears or call Snap-on or Mac tools. It looks nice too!! It does take awhile to cut out all the tool outlines, but the finished product is sweet. Or you can just do what Nathan does!! HAHA Later

Tool organization is for loooooozers, its more of a manly challenge when you have to look for the 14mm socket for 15 minutes every time you want to use it like me. I keep my tools in a giant pile on a shelf or on the floor where they belong. Oh yeah, I have been using the "Nathan method" too :D

yup! and bolts fit nicely and the ledge that the hood sits on (until you lean over your fender and dump a few into the engine bay never to be seen again)

You should go to Sears, they have all kinds of things to organize your tools. And for the love of God, J-Spec Tuner and all y'all would you please organize your tools? And since we're talking about tools, I just got some ratcheting wrenches for the first time, and let me tell all of you, they are a Godsend. I never got them before because they were so expensive, but the iron was hot since I had cash, and they're the greatest things in the world.

i'm organized! :D you'll have to ignore the bikes, normally they are in the back of the truck or hanging from the ceiling in my parents bedroom. ten years ago that work bench was the dresser i kept my clothes in.
