At the end of the month (when the paycheck comes in) I think I will be purchasing a S14 motor set from phase2. I don't have the money to upgrade much, and it will be pretty stock for now, so what parts should be replaced or upgraded for DD practicality and engine longevity? I heard it's better to get a new radiator, but what else would you recommend? Down pipe, FMIC, cat-back? Please help, and please keep in mind after the engine, I will probably have around 1000 most for all these parts. Maybe I should just save a little longer and wait on the engine?

fuel upgrades is a must.. like fuel pump, bigger injectors, and maybe a boost controller.

You would definately need a fuel pump. As for a new radiator that is optional although it would be easier since the sr and ka radiator hoses come out on different sides. A new exhaust system would also be good due to the heavily restricted stock exhaust, or just get the cats and resonators taken off and/or get bigger exhaust tubing. As for i/c the stock side mount would be good enough until you start adding performance stuff and running high boost. Hope this helps.

Care to explain why you think he'd need injectors, especially as he's getting a motorset?

I would suggest the following:If you're getting a motor-set and not a clip, that means you'll need to buy a used SMIC from someone, or buy an FMIC. If you get an FMIC, you'll also need to pick up a blow-off valve and a hot-pipe.-Downpipe is a good idea, and it's not too expensive-Walbro 255 fuel pump is a MUST-Boost gauge is a good idea-Boost controller if you want to up the boost. You can get a good manual one for under $50-Aluminum Radiator would be a good idea, but is certainly not necessary, especially if you don't have the $350 to spend.

Thanks guys :] I think it comes with the SMIC but not too sure, got to check on that. Yeah, not planning on making extra power right now, just want the base to work on. So if it comes with the SMIC and piping, downpipe, exhaust, and Walboro 255?

That sounds about right. You'll save $$ by just taking the car to a local exhaust place and having them weld up 3" piping and a muffler, as opposed to buying one.

Having a custom setup should run no more than $300, compared to $450+ for an A'pexi, etc. setup.

Look, I just got a S14 motor from Phase 2 Installed. Go to their website, they will explain what parts are necessary for a good swap. They have a kit that replaces all the gaskets, plugs, water pump, etc...if you are going with a stock swap, think about drivability first, race-ability second...They do suggest replacing the downpipe though, as it is kinda hard to access...Motor mounts too...

Well, you're getting an S14 SR20DET. That's not really too old.

But, if you want to keep it running normally and not risk any failures, just do basic maintenance.

You don't need a downpipe generally, but your stock downpipe from your KA won't work with the SR, so in this case you'll have to get one:

-Stock SR downpipe, or aftermarket.

You'll also want to take care of some other things that will keep it safe.

-Water Pump (I suggest getting an aftermarket one, such as JUN, because the stock Water Pump isn't designed to cool that well.)

- Oil Pump- Factory Nissan Belts (unless if the ones in your motor set are fine)

- Radiator (as mentioned above)

-And of course, Oil, Coolant, and transmission fluid that you will put when you install your swap.

After you have those, then you can move on to improving performance.

Such as..-Front Mount Intercooler (needed for running higher boost)- Fuel Pump- Z32 MAF

etc..

And if you only have $1,000 saved up for a swap... I don't suggest trying to get one..you will need more to buy the swap.. unless if you are planning on using a credit card (yikes)

no no, i'm going to have about 4-5G's TOTAL. so hopefully i can find a good condition motorset cheap to spend more money on those parts ;] I think I might have found one for 2800 so then that will leave me around 1-2Gs for radiator, downpipe, cat back, fuel pump, water pump, and all those other goodies you guys have suggested.
