Fencing is a beautiful sport that doesn't get enough appreciation. Where are you taking lessons?

Vicki:i know enough to a point to teach myself. The only thing i would need a teacher or another person for is to get better. I am buying wrist weights and boots to slow me down. I was learning in sacramento for 8months.

Jdmfreak:Hmmmmm..... You really need a teacher to figure out what you would be good in. It's not expensive at all. I have had my mask, glove, pants, and chest piece for years.

I just got annoying with droping fencing off the face of the planet when it was the first sport i was really into and descent at. I ordered a practice foil and a bag to carry all my crap. Like on a nice day i could go hike up to mount baldy for 4 hrs straight then practice fencing on top of the flat surface

I only like foil due to the fact its not fruity like epee and i couldn't handle saber, i am just not violent enough. I will practice on my aim becuase ..... well..... i kept hitting my teach in the balls. I didn't meen too... but he kept thinking i did... lol...

Also, i don't care about famous fencers all that much.

thats cool. I just look at it this way. There could be some poor dude or chick in france that is the best in the world but no one knows it becuase they don't like the fame of the olympics or couldn't find a sponser. Like the old dude in the hills story

I see a problem when i want to practice agianst a person though....

Also the warmup's are ummm interesting....

Imagine squats and squat position for 1.5hrs...

4 laps of squat position walking. Then do the same thing but every step like balay, down 1 2 3 up 1 2 3 down 1 2 3 up 1 2 3. Then 4 more laps of lunge! back to squat move forward lunge! back to squat move foward lunge! Then back and forths were the part i hated the most. Its when you get in a bind with another fencer. You lunge you got back as fast as you could then lounge agian the go back as fast as you could then lounge agian. Then there was step step lounge step step lounge.

All that for the first 30min for class

Man! It has been a long time for me. I used to fence in college. Never very good (did not make the college team, but did participate in intramural events for my fraternity), but it was a lot of fun!

One of my fraternity brothers was New England foil champion back in the early 70's (while still in high school and he made the MIT team in a heartbeat!) and I got hooked.

It looks like you are not a pistol grip user - I did not use it either, but I am curious: what are your reasons?

True. My reasons were more mundane: I did not like to move my wrist around too much - it hurt.

with a glove it's so easy to hold a traditional sword. Also i don't think you can use pistol grip in the Olympics anyway.

Sword and gun play eh? Pirates of the Caribbean = weak sauce fencing. They just sliced back and forth. I could own johny boy
