I ordered a built KA from Tophat Performance today! It will be awhile before I can afford to turbo it, but it will be SOOOOOO nice to have a fresh motor that can handle all the boost I will ever want to throw at it. Mike said that it will take about three weeks for it to be built. My old KA threw a rod through the block, due to the previous owner obviously not knowing what on oil change was (badly sludged, scarred bearings).

Was 9:1 compression? On their site it is 8.5:1

I spent all my money on the motor and parts I will need to install it right now. I would like to eventually a run medium sized snail with AEM EMS management. For now I just need to be able to drive my car.

I requested 9:1 compression. I want a very responsive motor.

Oh yeah... its going into my 1991 S13. I'm not going to speculate on final plans right now because they have a tendency to change depending on circumstances.

I also plan to buy from them. Does it cost extra for the 9:1 compression. Also, the 400hp they stated for the engine, is that hp or whp. Do they do custom additions to the motor like pauler rods etc.

It does not cost extra for 9:1 compression he gives you the option of the two. I don't know about the horsepower rating, as it is only an estimate of what the motor can handle. If you have ever held the stock rods they are FREAKING BEEFY! They have been pushed to over 500HP. Shotpeening only further reinforces them. IF you want to, he can install Pauter Rods but they are quite expensive.

if i were to buy a built motor from them ( which i wouldnt since it would be cheaper to do yourself ) i would have gotten the upgraded rods... since whats the use of a bullet proof motor that can handle probably upwards of 600-700hp except the rods that warp after going 450+ ( proved by phat ka-t on their stock block dyno s13) oh well maybe im just a pesimist... and just think... you just got a junk motor, took it to a machineshop, and got forged rods and pistons, new cams springs & retainers, you probably could have saved enough money to buy the parts needed to turbo your car too.... sorry to sound like a jackass.... but if you got the money, i guess its no problem
