What is the purpose of the small orange light located near the map lights?Manual says, it goes on when the headlight or parking light switch in turned to the on position.

Nissan refers to it as 'Mood Lighting'. I prefer a mostly dark interior at night. Too many lights just makes for lots of distractions.

In my Rogue, I love that orange light. When you are in a very dark location, that light gives a nice soft light to the console area so you can find and access the console. Once you realize what it does it becomes very cool. I love my little orange light.

Ah yes... the Mood Lighting. At first I thought it was nothing to get excited about but now that my wife and I have used it on a number of occastion during night time driving its actually quite handy.

It's doubtful the accessory is available from Nissan. Actually its nothing more than a single led bulb mounted up inside a recessed hole, up in the overhead console and shines down on the gearshift / center console area. It comes on when your headlights are on.

It would be simple enough to install one and you wouldn't even have to hassle tring to figure out how to add it to your headlight circuit. You could just wire a simple single led bulb (of your color choice) into the any ACC or IGN 12V circuit. Yes... it would be on whenever your car is on but you woudn't even notice it during daylight driving... yet it would be there in the dark when you needed it. .

Next thing well add strobes and lasers and turn it into a nightclub! j/k

I'm sure it's useful, but I prefer to stay in the dark.

My RX has this light and my G35 has 2 of them, one on each side of the sunroof switch. They are the blue tinted lights, would be very easy to change out the roof console as they are exactly the same in the G35 and the Rogue.

Useful at night instead of turning on bright reading lights.

I find it a thoughtful little feature (you know what sweethearts them there engineers are). Not bright enough to be distracting but enough to give the cabin a nice glow! Makes it more like a cockpit, yeah that's it!

I like it. It improves visibility in that area without making the cabin too bright.

I guess what I was asking is: On the base model SL which does not have the light is it pre-wired so one can be added? It does have the little notch where the light should shine thru... Maybe all I need to do is add a bulb...
