opinions wanted: swaping my SR into an 88 rx7

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I was building a pretty kick *** SR to go into my s14. Over the past year i had been slowly accumulating parts, and as i type this, the motor is having the final machine work finished. Well nothing ever works out as planned, and about a month ago, and old lady made an illegal left hand trn and smashed the front end of my car.

Since then ive bought a new car..(96 Lexus sc300...THAT ROCKS)...and ive been trying to decide what to do with the SR when it comes back form the shop.

Ive been looking for a clean coupe shell for almost a year now that isnt rediculously overpriced without success. I recently found an 88 rx7 on eBay for sale in my town that is well on its way to being a sweet little car.

Ive talked to the owner, and im going to look at it on Satuday. If the frame is relatively clean im going to buy it...I guess the point of all this rambling is to try and get some opinions and/or advise.

Im confident that between me and Fiznat we could finish the swap and have a cool little toy. I dont want any of that "keep it in the family" crap.

The ONLY other swap i would consider would be an LS1 swap into the rx7, but that would nessecitate selling my SR...

any opinions?

Pics to come if i buy the car

iirc the sr wont be an easy one to put in. the rx7 uses some oddball engine/trans/diff mounts similar to the miata ( i think its a chassis brace/drivetrain mount) and i also think its rear sump, but that im not sure of.

fwiw, there are a few miatas with sr swaps. the fc3s and early miatas are very similar chassis'. but this is just from what ive picked up sporadically. im sure the motor could be made to fit with minimal work. if not, sell it and go ls1. either way you win.

yeah, those are pretty much the two options im considering. Ive seen pictures of SR swap mounts that other people have made, and they def look a little funny. I cant wait to see the car tho, im mostly excited just to have another project to work on...

Any motor is better then the rotary though. And the SR won't add alot of weight, custom mounts like mntioned already, not all that difficult.
