The dealership we bought our G from has a warranty program where if they do all the maintenance on the car, they will repair any probs for 250k miles or 10 years. Now I know we'll never put 250k on the car before 10 years & I have always done most of my own vehicle maintenance in the past. Is this a good deal?

So, the cost of the warranty is the maintenance costs. You need to determine what the dealership will charge per year for maintenance based on the miles you drive. I couldn't say yes or no without knowing the costs and how much remaining warranty your car has and how long you plan on keeping the car..

The car is like 1-1/2 mo. old & I would estimate maybe we would put on 125k over 10 years, quite possibly more with such cool wheels! We tend to hold onto vehicles for at least 10 years.

But honestly, short of sitting down with the shop manager & getting an estimate for maintenance for the miles we would put on, I really wouldn't know. Myself, I didn't think it was a great deal when I can do general maintenance myself. My wife tends to feel comfortable with the security of not having to put out good coin for a new engine if needed.

If the price is right go for it. You can benefit from it if you keep it for 10 years. My wife started to bug me to keep mine for more than 2-3 years. My dealer just sent me an email if I buy extended warranty they give me $300 off. I don't know I love the car so I might go for 4-5 years instead of 2-3.

Just think about how much it cost if your car brake down. It is well worth.

I would skip it and do the maintenance myself.

self maintenance is def a money saver...but what kind of maintenance i mean is this everything including belts brakes tires alignments oil changes air filters cabin filters wiper blades...then i would do the math and see how much it adds up to and how much your paying for it and is it on your complaints or do they do the maintenance in intervals....

Ok, here's the deal, the only binder they have for this warranty is that I have to get my oil changed there every 3k miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. During the oil change they put in 2 additives. The first is called "The Protector Engine Oil Treatment". The second is "The Protector Fuel System Plus". These 2 additives are made by ECP Inc. from I think Woodridge IL. Their website is http://www.ecpinc.net.

I haven't called yet to see what they're charging for these oil changes but I'm sure it'll be over $50 a pop with those additives as well.

Has anyone heard of these additives? Is it worth an extra 3 years of warranty on the engine?

I would have expected prepaid maintenance to include oil changes. Therefore, any additives would be at their expense, not yours. Since I think all additives are worthless snake oil, I wouldn't pay anything for them.

Exactly what does the program cover? You need to compare expected costs with and without it and then pick the cheaper route.

Most of the time, extended warranties are a losing proposition for the buyer. Even if the insurance company that underwrites them is honest, the price of the warranty has to be high enough for them to make a profit after paying average claims and giving the dealer his cut. An extended warranty only makes sense if the cost of repairs is astronomical, such as for a Porsche 911 Turbo or a Ferrari.

I say skip it,most likely there will be a deductable, and strings attached.Have seen warrantys where the dealership is required to call the warranty company and therfore causing you to pay up front causing a long drawn out process. If it were me I would check all the fine print and find out how the process works if you have a problem other than maint issues.

Since you can do most of your own maintenance it's probably not worth it. It really depends what they consider "maintenance." If you have to drive your car in there and over pay for changing your wiper blades, that will end up costing you a lot in the long run.

Maybe if this were a BMW, it would be a good deal, but given Nissan's reliability, you are likely to drive 250k miles without any real expensive problem.

Also, your car already has like 50k/4 year full, and and 70k miles powertrain warranty (or something like that)... so if you only plan to drive 125k miles in the 10 year period it is def not worth it.

Keep in mind these plans are made to make money for the dealership... which means more money out of your pocket!
