Hey guys, Had a question for you, just wanted some opinions. Ok, well I have a 1990 240sx with a redtop sr20det in there. I am looking at about $700 worth of work just for the stupid stud I broke off. I have a friend who installed the SR for me and he gave me an offer.

He said he wanted the SR back and he would do the swap again, I would get his KA DOHC from an S14 with only 85k on the motor. Also I have another 240 that is auto, he said he would do the 5-speed swap on that for me as well. It would cost me nothing for labor, but again I would not have the SR anymore.

Should I do this and not worry about spending all the money on the SR? I paid $3,300 for motor/labor which was an excellent deal. I feel like I would be loosing money on SR Deal a while back, but I would have 2 good running cars. I just feel like the SR is definalty a project car only motor. If you don't have a backup when things go bad, you are kinda SOL!

I don't know what to do, please give me some input!

Do you think a 240sx with mods and an SR would be worth alot more?

I have posted my car up for sale but apparently no one wants it!!!

Looking to get around 8k for it. If you were interested go here

Which stud broke off and where? The stud on the head? Personally, I think the SR is worth more then KA's. You can buy 3 or 4 good running KA sets for 3300. After going so far, you are willing to lose it all to get back to where you started, or are you willing to take the one extra step that is holding your project down and have an awsome motor. The SR isn't really a project motor unless you are planning to do a ton of mods to it. It's really a great and dependable motor. If it was me and something broke on my motor, I'd go ahead and buy another motorset for 1000USD from Osaka and use it for extra parts and such. I would never spend on an individual piece that cost almost as much as the whole motor.

Yeah I broke the stud when I was putting the exhaust manifold back on. Its the very back stud and really hard to work on. Plus When we drilled it out to replace it a mechanic friend of mine was using the easy-out to get it out and part of that snapped in there too! To get both the remaining stud and easy~out out I think he is going to have to pull the head. That's at least $500 for labor and not including parts (head gasket ARP upgraded Studs, Head bolts....) So I am talking about at least $1000 for the job to get done right.

BTW, it would cost me nothing for labor or motor swap or the 5 speed transmission swap. I would pay nothing for labor or parts. But I would not have SR anymore......

You would pay someone $500 to pull the head when its not so hard to do so yourself? Just pull your own head off and be sure to pull the bolts out evenly so you dont warp it. Just nudge each head bolt til they are loose in reverse torquing order. Then take the head to a machine shop or something that is capable of removing the broken stud.

Bring my car where? What shop do you work at or own? I talked to Rollhard and they were the ones that told me they rather not even touch it!!! And about pulling the head myself, I wouldnt even know where to start! I am not a mechanic, nor do I know how to do major engine work like that. If you have any other suggestions, please help!!! Thanks for your input guys, I am glad everyone has a sense of humor, cause I thought that offer was really funny asa well!!!
