One of my friends and I have been talking about the cars we want to get for a long time now...I decided on the 240, which I just bought, and he's decided on a newer Pontiac Trans Am. I was just wondering if any of you have any first-hand experience with the Trans Am, regarding power, handling, and reliability?

We're just curious because I know they put out a lot, but being huge muscle cars don't imagine they handle overly well, and I haven't heard good things about Pontiacs since their much older cars. Any help would be really appreciated =)

pontiac did a good job of tucking the engine as far back as it could and achieved a decent weight ratio. as for reliability, i don't know how reliable they are. my parents have a grand prix GTP and it's had a few cosmetic problems since they bought it 3 years ago.

The trans would be one of the newer models....98+ I guess, though I'm not sure when they discontinued em, so ignore me if I'm ignorant lol.

From what I have seen the ws6 trans am handles really well good power. the formula is quite a bit slower (the one I was in was two years older than the ws6) and the fomula handles pretty good as well not quite as tight but close. The V6firebird is a hog and sucks a nut. floaty suspension and lots of body roll and to top it all off not enough power . thats all from personal experience 2001 ws6(LS1 6spd) 1997formula(LT1 auto) 2001 firebird(V6 and auto). Oh yeah i also drove a late 80s early 90s trans am with 305v8 and auto, handled like crap but did really amazing burnouts.

They stopped the Trans Am in 96, but made the Firebird until 2002, I know semantics...

If it's a Trans Am it's got a V8, no doubt, but they offerd a V6 in the Firebird thru the end of the model run. Suspension would have varied greatly depending on the engine options, but chances are it ain't holding any tight lines thru the esses.
