Hey Everybody,Need you opinion here. Okay, I'm starting my swap sometime next week and I'm debating on what to purchase first. I was thinking about buying a clutch and flywheel or exhaust and downpipe? I wanted to get the clutch and flywheel first because it'll be of course easier to install while the motor is out. But then I want the exhaust and dp because of the power gains. I wasn't on planning on installing the SR into the car until maybe around Nov or Dec because I wanna do a mild build up of the motor prior to install, this would include: 1.2mm Headgasket, RAS, Valve springs, etc....almost everything but rods and pistons. But that WAS my plan, but after reading all the other posts with people installing their SR's, I'm now debating on just installing it first to get the feel and doing the build up later. So basically, I just wanna know what you guys would do first? Thanks in advance and sorry if this post is a little confusing as I am confused myself!! :pface

Why not resurface the stock flywheel, get the clutch upgrade, get a fuel pump, and a downpipe? And an exhaust if you have money.

Do the clutch and flywheel. It's a lot easier to bolt on exhaust and downpipe than it is to pull the transmission off to get at the clutch.

its WAY easier to do everything when the motor is out of the car (headgaskets and stuff) thats what im doing now and im sooooooo glad i didnt put the motor in first.

I would almost rather pull the head and have to rip everything off than to drop the transmission. First off how much cash are you going to have for upgrades? Clutch $300, flywheel $300-you have to look around. I saw a tomei for $300 on ebay or on the bst forum. Downpipe $100, catback exhaust $300-500. For $1000-1200 you should be able to get just about all of that. FPR and fuel pump dont usually cost much either. What suspension do you have? Brakes, brakes, brakes. If you dont have them then make sure that brakes are one of the first things you do. Trust us. Many of us have done the stock brakes with the sr and it has cost alot of us accidents. The speed makes you overconfident but then you have to stop. Fortunatly the stock brakes are pretty good but will only hold up to so much.

Thanks for your replies you guys.......I'm planning on spending around $1500 within the next week or so and another $3k after Christmas. I was planning on getting the Toda Flywheel and ACT clutch package from Phase2...any opinions? As for exhaust and DP, Blitz Nur-Spec and Greddy DP. Fuel pump, Walbro. FRP, Nismo. The suspension I have are the Tein HE. As for brakes, Z32 TT Calipers with Brembo cross drilled rotors to start off. I'm planning on getting a real big brake upgrade one of these days. So tear apart motor and do the build up first is the consensous I'm getting? Here is the list of parts that I'm "planning" in buying. Let me know what you think.....

Let me know what you guys think.........Speedracer, I'm located in Auburn. We should meet up one day when my car is done and tear up all those civics!!!!!

It goes more like: Tires, tires, tires. If you dont have good tires you are putting yourself at risk. Tires provide the grip for braking. Bigger brakes just provide better cooling and brake fade characteristics (really only matters if you *race* your car).

300zx brakes are overkill if all you do is drive the car pr drag race it. If your hardcore autocrossing, drifting or roadracing, then its a worthwhile

;)
