first, let me say that I have read through the stickies in this forum and have a basic understanding of the risk.

With that being said, I'm considering buying a 98 skyline. Its a very clean car. It is a r34 (according to vin) gtt. It has had a rb26 swapped in and runs well. Its also only an hour from me and registered in the state I'm currently(I'm military) in. With that being said what would you all think it is worth? If need be, I can post his pics later, right now I'm on my phone though. I also welcome any comments that don't include ignorant bashing.

Edit: its got 36000 miles on the car unknown on the engine

Thanks in advance

If my hunch is correct I beleive you are looking at the black one on rx7club. I threw my 2 cents on that thread (user name: TRUST). Me being me and having lived in Japan, I wouldn't pay that much for a GTT swapped. BUT don't get me wrong cause that car is nice and tastful. From the looks of it I'd guess that the RB26 is a BNR32 swap and I don't recall if it was mentioned about the transmission being swapped to AWD or not which is another thing to keep in mind.

Going off of a rough price from what I've seen for sale in Okinawa, I would rate that GTT at $8k and tack on $2k-$3k for the RB26 depending on transmission and it's point of origin. Tossing in a rough price of shipping at $5k and of course it's not a MOTOREX so there isn't any other price factors to consider other than possibly $1k'ish for obtaining a title (grey market).

So using that basic break down on prices if that is the car you are looking at, I would contact the seller and throw those prices at him and negotiate a lower price. Still a good car none the less. Good luck and feel free to email me with any questions or if you need help, [email protected]

I searched on rx7club under threads you posted on and couldn't find it...?

The transmission is from the rb25 that was in the car before. I understand what you're saying about the price but this is the us and the whole supply/demand factor weighsheavily with these cars. Espeacially one I can drivean hour to pick up and drive it before I buy it. Plus its got a title in the state I'm in. Thanks for your input btw

Supply and demand does come into effect but the fact is its not a real GT-R and so sounds like he's trying to make money on it. Car's don't normally appreciate Honestly I would try and talk him down as well. How much is he asking for it?

It is a good deal, don't get me wrong, if someone doesn't want to go through the leg work, long process and waiting time when you can just BAM there it is.

EDIT: Just noticed you are in ATL, the one I'm looking at is in Utah lol. If you didnt know there is a guy on ia forums that is selling a Motorex 33 GTR V-Spec, wants a pretty steep price of $60k but it's for sale, hehe.

To be honest with you, if I were in the states and had that much cheddar to blow, I would snatch that V-Spec up in a minute.

1. It's a MotorEx car, so you don't have to worry about it being taken by the feds.

2. It's a V-Spec, so, should you take care of it, it could appreciate in value cinsidering the rareness (somewhat) of the V-Spec package.

Yeah, it is a bit steep, but think of the piece of mind you have with it being a MotorEx car.

I'd do an RB swap on a 240 and move on.

I'd actually do that over here too. If the Laurel ever bought it, and the engine was still good, I'd find a nice S13 Kouki hatch and dump the RB into it.

Wonder how common it is here in Japan for that???

By the way, Mike. I'm on my way to the post office now to send out the screamer. I had fun with it, but now, it's going home to daddy...lol.

I have only seen two, 1 a 180SX, the other a Silvia, both RB26. One did the 1/4 in ten seconds, the other blew the oil pump in ten seconds. Scrappy on the Yon did a 26 swap in his 180 recently.

It's not being made out to be a GT-R...besides, I don't want all wheel drive, and aren't GT-R's AWD? I want rear wheel drive and a RB26...this gives me both! And no, car's don't appreciate, but once again, its supply and demand...that's why people pay(ed) 30k-90k+ for federally legal skylines. And I did talk him down as well...

Ah, I found it. It's weird, it didn't show up when I searched for posts by your name...

No, I'm not in ATL anymore, that's just where I'm from. IA...man I miss that site, just about any part/car you want is right there. That is the car and I did buy it...It needs some work, but the body is way clean. Anything mechanical I can fix, but I can't un-wreck a car!
