I'm new to 240sx cars. Been reading posts on this forum for quite a while. Now is the time for me a purchase a 240sx.

I'm planning on buying a 240sx Hatch and found this 240sx for $1500 and $1300 (was thinking with a SR20DET in it but the price was too high).

Anyways below are the links to the one im looking at.

http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2213226971.html

It has 124k miles. This one is at $1500 but he can give it to me for $1300. Is it in a good price range for this car?

http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2206370443.html

Haven't asked him how much miles it is on but he said with all the engine n transmission put together, he is going to let it go for $1300

Going to go on Friday to look at both of the cars.

Please give me advices ASAP Thank you.

Check for rust underneath the car and shock towers. Look at the wing on the hatch for rust. While you have the hatch open look at where the spare tire area is. A lot of people forget that water can get in there if the hatch is leaking. Didn't figure it out till mosquitoes came out the car one day lol and kept hearing water in the back every time I turned. Very easy spot for rust. Good luck on your find!!

Both are priced too high, imo. The first one is ok, but 1500 is too much. I wouldnt pay more than 1200. Low ball him, see what happens. If hes really wanting to just move it, most likely he will sell it much cheaper. As for the second one, meh. Its a rolling chassis with a powertrain thats already been disassembled, which means you have no idea what you are getting into when it comes time to get it running. Unless you plan to do a swap right away, I wouldnt even bother with it.

Wow thank you guys for your opinions about the car that i am going to purchase.
Well I had my mine on the first car lol cuz of the exterior condition on the picture.
When i meet him i'm trying to low ball him to at least $1200 or lower. But like what LoBo240sx said i need to look more closely at the car before purchasing.
I'm a noob to 240sx models lol only read posts about swaps to sr20det. Where is the shock tower located at? woudl be nice to get a pics lol
And i'm going to purchase the car for daily / project. In the future i'm thinking about swaping the engine to sr20det. Any advice on that? Thanks

If you are wanting a daily, definitely stay away from the second one.

As for the shock towers, they are under the hood, located on either side of the engine bay. Check there, in the hatch/trunk area where the spare is, under the spoiler, and the frame rails under the car running along the sides. If you are wanting a daily, check closely for mechanical issues as well. Definitely drive the car. If you can, take it to a mechanic... slip him 30 bucks and you will get a sound opinion as to the condition of the car that you can count on, especially if you arent very mechanically inclined.

definitely going to take it to a mechanic if the owner is willing to let me drive it around for few days. if not, need to check all the rust parts and if it's in a good shape i'm going to take it home. I'll post pictures of the car when i get to see the car. Anymore advice of swaps?

Hello, im new to the 240sx community and in need of some advice for choosing a car lol. Being that i'm not the brightest guy out there im not specifically sure what im looking for in terms of price and condition together. Most of the cars on craigslist (240) are in bad shape but i have found a few decent ones and maybe you guys can spare some advice o_O The links here are the cars ive been looking at.

They all seem a little high in price to me. If i were to pick one I would see if the 3rd one could be purchased around the $2500 range and tell him to keep the 20's

Ah i see. Sadly there isnt much bargaining to be made with these people. Anything decent is more than 2500 and if its less its usually not running for some reason or another or just in bad shape. I guess being that its still a demanded car people feel compelled to raise prices idk

I know tell me about it. I did talk to the guy today on the third one and said that we could negotiate a 3300 dollar price tag a drop from 3800. Also said the only problem he had with the car was that the idle would be low after 30 mins of driving activity so yeah i really dont have many options. People havent been putting new nissans up for sale so i might have to wait.

Meh... I probably wouldn't buy it at that price. I'd also be wary of it not having a title, you could get burned real easy. Maybe if he could get a title and drop it down a little closer to the $1K mark.
