Opinions on the 2.0T?

In 2014, the G37 Sedan became Infiniti Q50. G37 Coupe and Convertible became Infiniti Q60 under Infiniti's new naming structure - Here's the place to discuss the Q50 and Q60!

I understand the VQ3.7 is a gem. A 3.7 Q50 used (or new 2015) cost more and about the same as a new 2.0T. I understand the 2.0T is the entry model. But even at that level, I'm happy with the tech and comfort features.

My use will be 95% city driving daily to and from work. And I don't consider myself a car expert. I just like the look of the car, is the bottom line, and the car's size and level of comfort fits my needs.

Anyone driven the 2.0T yet? Considering I'll be spending $30K+ I want to make sure I would not regret not getting the VQ powered V6 instead. Not that I need all that power, but there is a good feeling knowing you got that power. I guess that goes with luxury brand and paying a premium for a car.

Otherwise, why not just get a Nissan Sentra. I hope you guys get my decision process in choose the right Q50 for me. I know only I can decide, but I appreciate your comments.

I haven't touched a 2.0T - they haven't quite made it to all of the US dealers just yet. The release was oddly delayed. They're finally starting to trickle out into dealerships now.

Not sure if you realize this, but the 2.0T is a motor from Mercedes. Combined with the fact that it's over 100hp short on the VQ37 is a compelling enough argument for me to just go with a VQ37 and have a purer Infiniti experience. That said, while I do mostly commute with my Q50, a lot of that is interstate where I prefer to have 300+ hp in a nimble car as it suits my needs/wants as a driver.

If I were in your shoes questioning which way to go, I would drive both of them back to back. That will be the most telling thing for what will influence your decision. I have a feeling you will prefer the VQ.

I just picked up the 2016 2.0T a few days ago. I test drove both the '15 3.7 and the '16 2.0 during the trip to the dealership. I think the 2.0T engine is very adequate for everyday driving (I used to drive a 2010 M35). It's got good torque and drives very smooth. It's very good bang for the buck. However, if you got some extra cash, then you can splurge a bit and go with the 3.0T or even 4.0 Redsport.

Yeah, it comes out to the $6k difference in price from a base 2.0T to a base 3.0T 300. The 3.0T 300 seems to be dead-on with the 3.7 when comparing whp (based on latest dyno results).

It's funny but Infiniti went this route once before and offered the G25 sedan which was a flop in the US but more successful in other countries. Will be interesting to see how things go with the 2.0T in this regards as it's turbo and could be tweaked.

It seems like everyone has a 2.0T as their base engine now... did new CAFE standards hit for the 2016 model year? We're going to have the replace my wife's G at some point in the next year or so, so I'm also interested to hear thoughts about these engines.
