Okay, this was the post I though I was making before I saw the front of my Q45 smashed in, but was wondering what opinions anyone might have on the 1999 era Nissan Sentra (there is no discussion board for everything Nissan?). I have a chance to buy one for like 6k from a family friend with 24k on it, it is a GXE Limited Edition so it has just about eveything except a sun roof.

I know this car is probably dog meat slow but the wife needs a new ride, her 1990 Mits Galant while it has been a great car is starting to nickle and dime me.

So what do you think is that a good deal?

Oh, I guess this will get moved to the Sentra folder, I never even scrolled down that far, moderator, move it away!

nope, in 2000 they changed the design, chassis and engine. I've driven the old GXE Limiteds. Slow as molasses but the seats are very comfortable...very sporty with good lumbar support. I have the 2000 SE which is the newer design. I think you can probably pick up a 2000 GXE for about $6K and it has the newer QG motors and much more torque than the GA's which the 1999 comes with.

All in all, sentras are very reliable economical cars.

FWIW, if you're interested, there's performance parts for the QG18 that are a hodgepodge of GA16 & SR20 stuff. Intake - GA16Header - GA16Crank pulley - QG18Clutch - SR20

I'd take a 150k mi Nissan over a brand new Mitsu any day. The 2000> SE model has the SR20DE motor in it, fwiw, & I guarantee you would come to love it (for what it is) like you do your Q.

Although 24k mi on a 99 is really low & if you didn't want to be tempted by performance parts, the GXE would be ideal.

well, I was thinking on my way down to LA that I'd ask the boys on the board about the Sentra and than got out of my Q and saw the front end smashed in, so my Buring question changed quickly.

We already offered 6k and he hasn't accepted, kind of wishing he doesn't take it now, but the wife is excited to have a new car so we'll see what he comes back with.

Yup, it was the front right side and I approached the car from the drivers side each time I went to the car...so i didn't notice it until I parked at my Mom's. It was at least 3k in damage according to the body shop guy, insurance claim here I come, uggg.

Still waiting to see if this guy will take 6k for his Sentra, I think if he doesn't I'm going to wait for a new Altima at the end of 2004 model year.
