I have a "94 q. I've been extremely happy with. Slight isuues have cropt uop in the past, which have been settled.

I want to know. I am on my origianl fuel pump, original starter, and on the original fuel pump.

Car is running fine, with no major issues. Use it daily, without any problems.

But I keep wondering. With a 13 year old car with 160,000 miles, should I be concerned?

Especiallly with original alternator, fuel pump, and starter ?

Should I just change out????

With no maintnenance history provided, very difficult for us to determine. If it is original. I would keep a new pump and O ring and known goood FPCU in the trunk.

The trick is to be very sensitive to the gradually increasing noise from the trunk - or not. If you don't measure fuel pressure vs. curent draw, you may never know until it is too late. Then your FPCU is fried also - usually.

Welcome to NICO. Keep reading. Sometimes there is not an easy answer, only a lucky guess.

160k [8-9 years] was the point that many electronic and mechanical things failed................but you should have tens of thousands in your vehicle reserve account from the unneeded balances of the $2,500 you put away each year from year one.

I maintain in my home garage at least one of every electronics module for trouble shooting.

I am on my 2nd replacement fuel pump [150k, 230k] and FPCU, my alternator last to 235k [12 years].

You drive below average so 14 years is the equivalent of ~~ 210k.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've actually been a lurker here for a while, but never bothered to post anything til now.

It has been my belief that the extra money spent on oem parts vs. aftermarket is fully worth it. Thus, I've always used oem parts whenever I've had any work done. They do last a long time, but obviously not forever.

I'm still a little concerned about being stranded one day, so I think I'll just bite the bullet and replace the fuel pump, and the starter, for now.And then will see how it goes from there.

Thanks again for your responses.

Starter solenoid or relay (at least have a spare), maybe. But starter motor, probably not yet. Have you maintained your alternator? Most likely to go before starter motor.

Fuel pump, a good precaution, but you can verify by measuring psi vs throttle opening and rpm. If you have been religious with you fuel filter and Tier 1 premium and ISO-HEET, you may get more. But best to replace before it takes out FPCU. Read TexaOil post about rehabilitating the starter motor.

I think some folks around here carry around spare parts in their trunk, i.e. ECU, TCU, etc. It's part of owning a 10+ year car. I'm thinking about doing it myself.

I keep a spare ECU in the trunk next to my box of detailing stuff.

I should take my Second Gear Start TCU off my dining room table and put it in the trunk as well. I think I'll keep my spare Fuel Injectors in the house though.

In the glovebox I keep an assortment of screwdrivers, sockets, and a pair of multi-purpose CUTCO scissors. I have a roll of electrical tape and a roll of 3M double sided tape. And a bottle of New Car Smell.

This is in addition to my registration, insurance, and maintenance documentation.

Sounds like a lot, but it's really neat.
