Yesterday I decided to tint my tail lights. After many many MANY hours of prep, spraying, and drying, this is the result. It is MUCH darker than I wanted. I was going o a darker Mercedes tint, but got a little carried away with the can. I wanted to keep my silver and black look, but this is a little too black for my taste. My biggest concerns with them being this dark is tickets, state inspection, and getting rear-ended.

Nevermind the missing badges, they're getting a nice paint job. Also, the marked up bumper is from a small accident that still hasn't got repaired. It's on the to-do list tho.

Please let me know your thoughts, if they're too dark and whatnot. Also, if anybody has tinted tails and has any tips or advice for me, please let me know.

Lights off.

Parking lights on.

Brakes applied.

Another brakes applied.

Thanks!

That was something I've been thinking about. I just don't want to spend $100 on bulbs. Do you know where I can get those LED bulbs that have LED's all around it for pretty cheap?

They look good to me! Though the left side seems a tad darker. It may be the ambient light though. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, the left looks darker because of the lighting. They were sprayed side-by-side to ensure that they both are the same shade.

Does anybody have pics of pathfinder tail lights with the LED SMD bulbs?

I think it looks really good. I changed my blinkers from orange to clear bulbs because I didn't like that Halloween look when the blinkers lit up- although I think you can get a ticket for that too. all the cool kids are doing it

They look alright to me (I don't usually like 'em though unless they are on a black vehicle).

Do you go to WVU? I have a ton of friends that went to WVU (most of whom dropped out though).

Yeah, I'm about to go for my last year for computer engineering. WVU has that effect on people, I know lots of kids (mostly engineering majors) that dropped out. Even a couple who dropped out in their senior year.

Not the greatest idea. I also Tinted My tail lights and was looking for bright LEDs. I was testing out 2-3 bulbs with different amounts of LED and I Burned my Safety Neutral Switch, two relays and several wires. So be careful cause Once you Burn that switch Its gonna cost you a F$ck load to fix and Your car wont even start at all.

Btw My if you want good lights Get the 65 SMD lights(not so sure its on ebay) for reverse.

How would LED's cause that much damage? What happened? Don't those SMD LED bulbs draw the same current as the filament bulbs?

I thought the same but i was playing around putting in one then taking it out then trying another one. Some how it short circuited and Burned the s*** out of my truck.

Just be careful and try one i guess.

These are pretty crazy. They should do the job just fine. They're a steal at only $70/pair.

That looks wonderful!!! I love that look and idea of smoked tailights, I've seen a lot of people do that instead of buying Altezza tailights, I just think Altezza now a days are played out, need a new genuine look. My idea though on my Q is smoking the red reflector part and leaving the clear signal part without any spraying, but replacing the amber bulbs with the silver coated bulbs, but amber, give a clean look.

BTW: Anyone know where I can buy the tint spray everyone uses? Please let me know.

Man, I think it looks sweeet! Keep it and as suggested earlier, maybe LEDs may solve the brightness issue

looks good to me. dont know about your county but around here you would eventually get pulled over for it. I just saw an infiniti G20 get a ticket on Friday, right outside my work, for blacked out tail lights.

Yeah, that's probably one of my biggest concerns. The cops in my area love to give tickets for stupid stuff. I got pulled over in my old car for not having a front license plate (even tho it was in my windshield) about twice a month.

I don't really drive my pathfinder much during the summer so maybe I'll be fine until I go back to West Virginia.

QX4dahuneys - You can pick up VHT Nite-shades at most local auto parts stores but I would probably check their website to see where it's sold near you (http://www.vhtpaint.com).

My pathy is silver, looks really light from the sunlight.

Yeah, there are two holes under the Pathfinder lettering and two more under the small Nissan logo. I found this out the hard way. You can kinda see the holes, they're pretty hard to see, they look more like dirt in the pics. I'm in the process of painting the new badges, I'll take some more pics when they're finished.

QX4dahuneys - I have the silver coated bulbs you're talking about, the Sylvania Silverstars. Before I tinted the lights the bulbs would make a really light blue tint in the lamp. With the lights tinted that blue color has become a lot more noticeable, not sure why. They produce a really crazy orange color tho.
