Okay here's the deal.

I've been the proud owner of a '90 240 SX, there's nothing I'd change about his car.!!!! Okay I've changed a few things :)

But I have a friend who wants to sell his 89' 240 SX (auto). He told me the transmission just went out and his asking $400.00.He claimed the car was at 55mph running at 3500 rpms.He says he's pretty sure it's the transmission, the car will start just won't shift into drive or reverse. Does this sound like a transmission problem??The car is close to perfect, body's in great shape, interior could use a bit 'o work though. I need a project to work on so I was wondering if this is a good buy. I have a friend who will do the transmission work for free, but he's never worked on Nissans.

I was wondering if I should even bother, this car more then likely will not be a performance car, just some minor modifications.

So what are some of the pitfalls. How much do Nissan trannys run usually????

WELL IF MY 2CENTS COUNT.. IM NO EXPERT. BUT I BOUGHT A 89 240SX AND IT WAS STILL RUNNING.. AND I LOVED IT.. AND STILL LOVE IT.. BUT THAT ENGINE IS CRAP.. IVE REBUILT IT TWICE AND THEN MORE RECENTLY MY OILPUMP WENT OUT ON IT.. AND BLEW SOME RODS AND MY OILPAN.. SO ITS A GOOD PROJECT CAR.. ESP FOR 400BUCKS.. BECAUSE IVE LOOKED AROUND AT JUNKYARDS IN SOUTH TEXAS AND 700BUCKS FOR A GOOD RUNNING ENGINE.. 300BUCKS FOR A GOOD transmission.. SO I THINK ITLL BE WORTH IT.. AT LEAST FOR A PROJECT CAR.. BUT WHAT KIND OF PROJECT R U LOOKING FOR.. SINCE U SAID ITS NOT GOING TO BE A PERFORMANCE CAR?JOE

Well not a high performance car anyway.I'm mainly looking to redo the interior and install a custom stereo, new paint job. Nothing ricey, just a small project.Perhaps for re-sale, not sure yet. I think $400.00 is a good deal myself. Although I'll be helping to install a new transmission, it will be my first one.

Dude, you have had more problems with your car than I can count. Have you managed to get everything back up and running yet?

As for the 400 bucks, there was one close to where I live that was going for the same amount. It is worth it if you like the automatic. I would love to fine a cheap 5-sp. somewhere. My body is rusting pretty bad but the internals are still good.

$400 for a 240 with good everything except transmission? Don't buy it. Tell me where it is and who the owner is and I'll buy it so you don't have to bother with it. :-)
