couldn't be more pissed right now,,,but here goes. went out tonight to find my front passenger window smashed!!! i live in a very good neighborhood and the doors weren't locked, but they are doing construction close by too, but it is toast! can't find anything laying around that might have caused it,,,but, bottom line is it has to be replaced quick (the tint is the only thing keeping it in one piece!). at the moment i'm not in the best finacial situation, just had surgery on my achilles tendon so only have workmans comp. payments right now. anybody have any suggestions on the easiest and cheapest way to fix this??? my local mechanic is pretty decent,,,and since i'm pretty much out of commission,,,doing it myself is out of the question right now,,but it's gettin cold out so this has to be dealt with now!!!! can a used (junkyard) window be used, or do you have to go with new? first time dealing with this for me! thanks guys

I see no reason not to use a junkyard window. The fit of glass is simple. Don't get a custom tinted window, it won't match.I'd just find one with the black plastic round thing still stuck on - a rusty dot is ugly.

You can find them http://www.car-part.com if you can't get it from someone on NICO parting their car out. I had just contacted a few folks for a part on the NICO list, but no one replied :-( so I got it on-line from this site. The window looks like a $50 item there.

Make sure the mechanic is gentle with the nylon pieces in the window regulator. They are known to crack - and you'll need another $100 part.

Also, depending on your state - and what coverage you have on the car - your insurance may have glass breakage coverage. In SC if you have Comprehensive coverage, it's included by law with no deductable. In GA I think it's a $150 deductable. Just something to think about - I've had several friends not know they had the coverage and drive around with broken windshields.

You might also check with Joe to make sure they didn't use different windows (with slightly different tint colors depending on the paint color) on the 90 Q's. I know they did on the windshield, but I'm not sure on the side glass.

Also, there was a wind-noise countermeasure glass that was introduced in a TSB for the 90Q. So if you get one that was the countermeasure glass and try to install it without the countermeasure mirror foam and rub rails, it may not be compatible. I don't know this for sure but it's something to look into.

Man, this is a lot of complication for a friggin peice of glass!

thanks guys for the info!!!! found a place in king-of-prussia PA that has a 90 Q and can get the glass, probably on fri. is there anything i should make sure of either before i go down there, or when i get there, i.e., questions, will the glass fit???? what should i make sure of about the two "buttons" that are attached to the window. mine are still attached obviously, but does the "new" window need that attached??thanks

All glass should fit, not sure how Heath's info complicates this, sounds like if it has the TSB update it might be a tight fit.

If you pull the weatherstripping back and look around, you'll see a nut or screw on the sliders (locators)never had mine apart, and FSM shows not much specifically on side glass removal.

If you're really pressed you can cut plexiglas in the rough shape of the opening...just in case you really have to park it on the street or something.
