i'm currently working in a dealership right now just servicing car and fixing them all day long.I want to work in a high performance shop and hook up carsdo ya think i should stay in the dealership and learn as much as possible then start looking for a job at high performance shops?(because i just got out of an auto school so i'm consider as a newbie tech or it doesn't really matter because performance shop and dealership's work is not really related and i can start off at a performace shop?

you can always *look* for a job and keep your current one unless an astoundingly good offer comes up... I'd go for whatever brought in more $$ at this point. If the dealership does that but you really want to work for a performance shop, get a little experience and money before switching over.

well at the dealership money is aite...but i really want to work in a performance shop, that's what i really want to do/be...a tuner not just a mechanic/technician.

but the thing is i don't know if performance shop requires to know alot and stuff, i'm afraid that i cant do what they ask me to do. In the dealership, whatever i don't know someones is willing to teach me over there and help me out on stuff that i can't do. See a performance shop is someone's own little business so i'm afraid i'm not good enough for it. On the other hand the dealership is a bigass company whatever i don't know someone is there to teach me ..ya get me?

Work in a shop where you are going to be able to learn. Are you at the point where you know just about everything you need to know, about the cars that you're currently working with? Ideally, you might want to get apprecentenced to someone who does fabrication work. Where ever you work, check them out for a while and get an idea about what kind of vehicles they service, and how much their customers are spending.

One of my mechanic's has an apprentence right now. The guy is good with cars, and is gradually learning all sorts of things. The shop I go to has a widely diverse range of cars, which gives the guys a lot of variety and the ability to gain lots of experience. Also because of their reputation, they get to do lots of unique, one off projects which provides avenues for learning.

In any sort of technical job, a good boss will teach you what you need to know to be a good employee.
