I may be touching some nerves here, but I'm gonna ask it anyways. Do you think a 16x7 +42 offset would look OK on an S13 coupe? The wheels in question are Motegi FF6. I know motegi has it's market in FWD's, and they are mainily associated w/the ricer crew....but... they're a nice clean looking wheel, and can be had for a decent price(compared to some of the ungodly expensive sets out there). This car isn't for show, isn't beat around a track, so I think the quality of the wheel isn't really an issue.

I'm just curious what your opinion is on the offset issue. It will extend the wheel 11mm, which is 0.433". I'm not shooting for uber flush or anything, but it will get me closer than the stock 15x6, no?

Attached is a picture of my coupe, along w/the wheel in question. If any of the photoshop guru's could slap those on, I'd be very greatful. I seen these on a black hatch and they looked really sharp.

Thx for bearing w/me.-Slip

Can't help with the Photoshop, but I was playing around with the handy Offset Calculator.

http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html

So, I know that a couple of guys (Greg included) run 17x8 +35mm wheels with no problems on strut clearance (or even Z brakes, but that would depend on the style of the wheel itself).

According to the calculator 17x8 +35mm setup gets you 20mm closer to the strut than stock and pushes the wheel out 30mm.

A 16x7 +42mm would get you 15mm closer to the strut body and pushes the wheel out 11mm.

Just messing around with the calculator, I don't think it would look particularly awful. If you're OK with the slightly sunken look of the OE wheels then the Motegis shouldn't be a problem aesthetically.

Still, you probably want to check with the gurus in the Suspension forums.

BTW, I may be interested in buying your OE alloys if you get the Motegis. Hit me up via email if you're interested in selling 'em.

Re: the alloys. I actually just moved to NM a few weeks ago: forgot to change my profile. Sorry. Thanks for the input, gotta run.

to be honest it wont be that bad. i have 17x7 +42, and they are sunken but not to the point of being horrible. it isnt as bad as the people in the suspension forum will tell you.

In a aesthetic sense it's to each their own, but when you are plus sizing rims, offset plays a part in how much stress your hubs will bear. If you run close to stock tires sizes on a +42 rim, say 205 or 215 you'll be ok. But if your'e looking to get wider tires then your'e going to want a lower offset to begin with. Spacers will help offset the hub stress but then you'll need to look into getting longer hub studs (since you want to use such a big spacer) which in the long run you'll end up spending the same amount of $ you could use towards rims that have an offset lower than +40. But that's just my .02

You live in NM now? i'm jealous. Did you get sick of the north east? Because i am!

hah, you mention stress on the hubs. You wouldn't believe how many cars/trucks down here in NM have tiny 13-14" wheels extending 6"+ from the fender. Sad thing is I think that's the look they shoot for.

FYI I came along w/a company relocation. The low-to-zero humidity is about the only thing I really like about the place. Other than that, it sucks... g/f's car was keyed 3weeks after being here, sooo much violence/crime. I guess I'm just not used to the big-city living. I really miss PA's twisty mountain roads, abundance of tree's/greenery, etc. A 'back-yard' here is considered a parking-stall sized spot of dirt.

But anyways, thanks for the reassurance on the wheels. I'll try to get a pic of my buddies hatch w/them installed.

Where in NM do you live? I've visited and my dad used to live in Belen and at a later point in time Albequerque. Doesn't seem like anything is going on there, and for having so little people i'm surprised its worse or *as* bad as Philly.

Yeah. Quite honestly, seeing them on the car I don't really care for them either. They're not awful, but I would probably pick something else.

Are they really that much cheaper than some lightly used Kosei K1's or new FN01R-C (yeah, I know everyone has them but they still look good)?

They would probably look better if made to look like they were 16s.

Looks like they were 'sized' for 15" to me too. I'll have my S-tech's on before I buy any wheels, whatever they may be.

bleh on the 5zigen, the spokes aren't meaty enough for my tastes. Besides, tt's not like I have a big-brake kit or anything to show off, so I don't see the sense in exposing my wheel-well even more.

I had my sites on Gram Lite 57S, but they're $200+ea

So yeah I don't really care for their look on my coupe either. They looked *so* much differently on a hatch...

<sigh>

Maybe he'll let me test-fit them just for ****z 'n grinz.

I wish more of the BBS line came in 4-lug
