OK... I've been planning the build of my SR20 for the past couple of weeks. And I keep running into the same problem...Engine Management. My goal is to eventually be at around 350-400 at the wheels. I have been doing my research and asking different turbo owners what they have done, have now, and what they would do if they were to do it again. Most say to go on ahead and go full standalone first before doing all the mods so I dont run into the problem of not being able to properly tune it dwn the road. And then I talk to some who say that it would be stupid to go to a full standalone and that all I need is either a rise and rate system or a piggy back.

Now I want yall's opinion. What would be the best move. Stand alone, piggy-back, or rise and rate?

You can contact Redline Performance, I've had great luck with him. He does retunes on your stock ecu. I'm currently running a sc-61 turbo, 740cc injectors, and a Z32 mafs. It only cost me $350 (or you), and he one day aired my ecu from california to minnesota so I could drive my car on my day off!! The only thing you need is to supply a modification sheet and an ecu. email me if you want his contact info.

AEM EMS

Not a big fan of the ECU retune due to downtime and lack of flexability.

I have been looking into the different standalone systems and two major brands relly caught my eye. One was the Apexi Power FC. And the AEM.From what I've heard from different people, they are both plug and plays. But the Apexi is alot more user friendly and the AEM is capable of more.

So if anyone has any experience with either one of these systems, or anything else, please tell me what you think of them, how easy it was to learn, and just tell me a little more about them. Thanks

If you must go with a standalone, go with the aem. It doesnt get any better and its user friendly. I have it in my supra. If you decide againest the full standalone, I had my ecu tuned at JWT for my s14 with s14 sr. The turn around time was the only downfall, but the tuning is excellent. You dont have to pay for dyno time, wiring, etc. I suggest buying a second factory ecu to send off. If flexability is an issue, go with a jwt and an safc. That way you dont really have to have a dyno to get by. You can tune an safc without a dyno if you have a friend with a wideband o2 sensor. You can tune the aem with a wb o2 also....I know, but its a heck of a lot more complicated.

PFC is about 1/2 the price of an AEM. If you go with 720's you'd want to go with a stand alone not a piggyback. The PFC is a true Plug and Play, plug in and mod as you go. No calibrating the TPS or anything of that nature.

S-AFC is not to be used with any car making any level of substantial power.

It will adjust the point on both the fuel AND ignition maps!

You have an SR engine. Get the POWERFC. Best bang for your buck, and it has been tested over and over again.
