Hi i am new. well i had my eye on 90s nissan 240sx and i was wondering what are your opinion's on having a nissan 240sx for the first car. I really want one but a buddy told me to get some kind of car to start out. ive consider the 96 200sx or a sentra and was wondering should i just go with the 240sx or just start with the 200 or sentra.

Thanks.

Technically I had an 85 max before I got the 240, but I never drove it. When you get the 240SX, learn it well...trust me it'll save your life if you start to lose it in the rain and can just snap it back to where you can get out of it safely.

Excellent choice as a first car. Inexpensive, well made, very predictable handling, good visibility and nice looking. Can't go wrong with them.

I agree with the top posters, and you have to be careful because it's not like driving a civic. My 240 was my second car, and I'm glad because I beat the hell out of my first car.

Technically, this is my first car, but I've been driving for a few years without having a car, so I just beat down on the cars that I drove, mainly my brother's and mom's cars. :)

Now that I have the 240, I drive like an old grandma, and I do my best to conserve gas :)

My 240 is my first car, I haven't gotten a chance to really drive it for a long distance yet (lots of body work done). But I love the car none the less.

Honestly thats a question you need to ask yourself. Its really a question of responsibility. My 240 is my 2nd car, and my first was a total piece of crap. It taught me not to drive like an idiot, how to take care of a car, and also just how to drive...A RWD car in my opinion is not the best choice for a first car. I would have of crashed my 240 if it was my first car

Look man, it's a Nissan 240SX. It's not a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Hell, it's not even a Supra or RX-7. Or even a Camaro Z-28. It's a 155hp (for S13s) sporty econobox.

I love my S13 too, guys, but it's just a 240SX.

Oh, to the guy who said it's like getting a CBR900 (I think you mean 929 or 954), you're dead *** wrong. Make a single mistake on a 954RR, and you're dead. And I do mean DEAD, in the most literal sense of the word. Buying a 240SX for a first car is like buying a Ninja 500. A little more to handle than a 250 (which is the best starter bike), but not even in the same class as a 600, 750, or literbike.

well my ferst car was a sentra and i loved! it as far as a 240 for a ferst car id say it would be fine. but you have to be a bit more carfull in it than a fwd car in raine/snow. if you want a car to test limits in id go for a fwd but if your carefull it would be fine

The 240 is really a great car, with a few things to watch out for, especially on the 1989 and 1990 models, with the timing chain, etc. I won't rehash that aspect, as you can search for it quite easily above, and find information far more detailed than what I could offer.

With regard to it being your first car, I say go for it. I got my 240 almost a year ago, and it was my first car, after having driven my mom's 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora (4.0 liter V8 makes many Hondas angry, hehe, too bad it was FWD and handled like a boat). I live in Connecticut, and we get some pretty bad winters . . . I made it through this past one with the 240, in bad conditions, with very bad, somewhat bald, Cooper Cobras. The 240 is a great car to learn the aspects of RWD, in my opinion . . . when it starts to slide out on you, it's very easy to recover (compared to cars like the MR2, or even things like a 300ZX).

Plus, it really is a ton of fun to drive, probably more so than almost any Sentra or 200SX out there (no offense to the owners of said cars, ;-)).

Im driving a 97 olds right now, 3.1 L v6, pretty nice, very low mileage, but its AUTO(not acceptiable.) Im looking to buy a friends 240, its a 91 with 100k miles, and its coupe YAY, its all factory, had some minor repair work, nothing big, couple scratches, but for its age, pretty sweet. Can anybody tell me what they think its worth?

my first car was a 89 accord LX (carburated) and to add to it it was a automatic. id personally get a beater for a first car atleast for the first 8months to 14months, seen friends and others first get there license and they concentrate more on friends in the car or other things then the road, or showing off, i did it too so not ragging on anyone, but just saying its always good to be on thesafe side and get a beater for a few months. I love my s14 to death but glad it wasnt my first car, even though i was pissed that i had to ride to and from school/work/around town in a POS honda, that i didnt know if it was gonna start over heating and puffing smoke at any time.

ps. if you get the 240 remember it aint your friends honda, or paseo...

getting a stock 240sx as your first car is no problem at all. it's not exactly a supercar, comes stock with about 160hp, so there's nothing to worry about. only thing that may be a bit to get used to is the RWD, but that's no problem. your buddy that wants you to get a sentra or 200sx is probably just hatin on ya, doesn't want you to get a nice car, hehe.
