Well......

Since I have a v8 I think I'll go back to my domestic days and do the usual.

More displacementbigger valvesand cam

I will not be doing the rebuild im gonna give it to Mazworx.

Do you guys know of any other pistons that fit in the hole its gonna stat na so close to stock compression is ok.

Also what is the max the stock block can be bored before sleeving is required?

Thanks guys.

yea i saw something like that not to long ago.

But judging from the size of the bore spacing i would think it could be done with bore alone. It would probably need a resleeve but i think its possible.

10% more displacement is sure an expensive way to get 10-12% more power.

I've re-sleeved a VH block out to 3.780" bore. There is alot of aluminum around the stock iron liners so you can open the bore up quite a bit with some new liners. What I'm doing now to my extra VH block is sleeving the bore down with 1/4" iron sleeves to 3.625" bore, and using probe part number 14434-073 with 6" chevy rods. ends up a little smaller than stock, but uses off the shelf forged parts.

If you want some larger valves, I made a thread here about a year ago where I listed the part numbers of valves and guides, and what you need to do to make them fit in a vh head. I think they were 3mm bigger exhaust heads and 2mm bigger intake heads.

If I am not mistaken Top Secret, the very popular tuning shop in Japan used VQ35 pistons in there Vkdett that pushes 700hp . Not sure if the bore is the same a the vh though.

My mistake they were VQ30 rods and pistons.

here is the article from super street.

Any clues/ideas what caused that head gasket to get sucked in? Did it get run hot?

Hey Jerry...want to sell me a few easy access parts off the old one??? I need the crank bolt and the little access cover that sits on the lower timing cover, passenger side.

Id be happy to get you those parts as soon as I get my car back. Like I said in the other thread the car is at Mazworx getting the roll bar put in so its like 250 miles from me right now LOL.

Hey defrag shoot me an email I'd like to bounce a couple ideas off you and maybe we can do some buisness

My email is [email protected]

Looks like it was run for at least some time after the sealing ring got sucked in. I'd say it probably got rather hot at some point, warped a bit, and the loss of clamping force allowed the head gasket ring to get pulled in the chamber.

I wonder how accurate that info is?

I have VQ30DET piston compression height as 30.4 (not sure on reliability of this info, but it was on a piston dimensions chart), and VQ30 rod length as 147.65

So if we go:30.4 + 147.65 + (82.7 / 2) = 219.4

Assuming the piston info is accurate, we can see the piston would have 0.95mm deck clearance at TDC, when installed in a VH45DE.

This obviously isn't fine, so I did a little reverse investigation and found the VQ30 deck height is reportedly 215mm, so here we go:215 - (73.3 / 2) - 147.65 = 30.7

So if the VQ30 pistons actually sit flush with the deck in that motor, then theoretically the compression height is 30.7mm, which gives us a new installed height of 219.7mm, and a deck clearance of 0.65mm.

Anyone care to interject/confirm/deny/speculate on the above?

Hmmm, seems fine to me. You'd lose some quench if you don't mill the decks or use thin head gaskets, but guys that run high octane gas and boost often don't care much about quench anyway. Will the VQ rods match up fine to the VH crank?

Unfortunately, based on what I've read, the VQ30 conrods are 48mm at the big end, which renders them pretty useless.... unless they're meaty enough to remove like 3.5mm worth of material off the radius & still have at least the same thickness as the VH rods (unlikely).

I'm also investigating another avenue for doing this... have e-mailed Jerry with questions.

does anybody know what kind of effect sitting the piston 1.2mm (.047 thou) further up in the cylnder bore would have to compression or piston to valve clearance. ?
