I pulled the trigger today and purchased a new '09 G37 Convertible. I've noticed that when I open the trunk, using the key fob, the button on the tail light, or the switch on the dash, there is considerable resistance when I attempt to open it. For the first few inches, it sounds like I'm pushing against some kind of motor....then the resistance lessens a little, and I can more easily open it the rest of the way. I'm assuming that this characteristic is specific to the convertible, but am not sure. Can anybody tell me if this is normal or not.

Thanks. Great to be a new member of this forum, and I'm sure I'll learn a lot, and maybe someday will have accumulated enough knowledge and experience to be of help to others.

For reference, I just purchased an oh-ten G37S Sedan and have no abnormal resistance when lifting the trunk lid. It is very smooth, yet slightly firm. I think if the car were upside down and I pressed the "trunk-open" button on the fob, it would not fall open without some prodding. it would open smoothly.

I don't have to push to get it open. I have to slam it to shut, but not open.

Does this make sense? It sounds good to me, but we are both a little off right now...Me and myself that is. Could we measure resistance? We are open to testing.
