Well after deciding to eliminate the AIV system I realised that the vacuum lines connected to the solenoid werent.

Im assuming the ka24e was running with em open for 2yrs.

What does that mean? Has it been sucking in exhaust, has it been doing nothing, are the vacuum lines all gummed up, how do I tell?

You may have a manifold leak, depending on which exact lines you disconnected and left unplugged from the control solenoid. The AIV is an emmissions device. Its used to limit HC and CO, so you may have trouble with that.

Not me previous owner or mechanic. I'm just concerned with how much contamination it introduced. Where do those lines go? I'll run seafoam through the vacuum booster and fuel system anyway. The engine only has 20k so I'd rather avoid using it in the crankcase.

thanks kid240 its a nice preview of the FSM I'm anxiously awaiting and gives rise to another question. on the '89 ka24e theres 1 throttle cable on the '90 SE version theres 2. Is that the SCV actuator? and what the heck is it?

Actually, there should be another page that shows you how the lines for the AIV are run. See if you can scan that one and up load it.

If I recall, there should be a line running from manifold to the control solenoid. If you disconnected that and left it open, you'll have a vacuum leak in the manifold. It probably won't drop it a huge amount, but it'll still be more than you want. The other lines I believe run from the air intake to the AIV and then to the exhaust. I think the valve is normally closed, so if the control is disconnected the valve will stay shut, but someone can verify that.

i think that page shows it, line #6 runs from the intake tract to the aiv, and line number 5 runs from the metal tubes to the aiv.
