Hi, i was just wondering if anyone has even popped open their hatch using their keyless remote in a 1.8SL CVT? According to Nissan.ca website under the keyless remote discription, you can do that using the remote.http://nissan.ca/en/vehicles/versa/interior.html

I have the intelligent key, but I think it should be the same for those with the power package.

If I unlock all the doors, either by pressing unlock twice or the power unlock button, the hatch will also be unlocked. Then I can operate the hatch release button/handle to open the hatch.

Yup, there is no way to actually open the hatch with the keyfob, just unlock it.

Yeah, If you think about it, the hatch won't begin to go up until you give it a little push. If it worked fully on its own, like the Quest does, then it could work like that.

I tried to raise this question before, on another thread but got sandblasted by a person who doesn't have a Versa anymore...

I bet the sedan has a pop-up trunk and maybe - just maybe an interior release.

The trunk on most sedans have spring mechanism and hinge design that allows the trunk to pop-up and in some cases open completely when released. Every sedan I've ever owned works this way. Most newer cars have an electronic release like the Versa.

However, the hatchback trunk lid is much heavier and requires pneumatic/spring loaded struts to hold it up. Making these struts stiff enough to open the lid on it's own, would make it difficult to close easily. Opening it completely automatically would require a linear actuator like those used on minivans. This is very expensive.

Aren't all new sedans required to have an interior release?

Yes. The Feds require that all new cars sold in the US be equipped with an internal trunk release that could be accessed by a person trapped. A passive system could be installed also that detects humans and automatically opens.

The passive system really sounds cool. Here's how it works."When a carbon dioxide sensor trips, indicating that a person is trapped, the gas cylinder is caused to discharge into the gas-powered piston, which pulls a cable or the like to release the trunk latch. Since the power used to release the latch is provided by the compressed gas source, this can occur even in the complete absence of electric power in the trunk (such as might be the case in an abandoned vehicle whose battery has depleted."

Combine that with a manual release, there's a good chance you're getting out.
