Im soon to sell my cat-back exhaust, Im considering open DP but then again I think I may make my own exhaust, use one 3" 2 bolt flange welded to a 12" peice of 3" exhaust pipe with a 45* turn down and a slant cut, what do you guys think of my custom exhaust idea? Itll be cheap and then I can sell my gt-spec. How much do you guys think I should ask for a used Apexi GT-spec? sorry for teh noob post just curious if you CA guys like my exhaust idea or not.

I'm one deep mofo baby. Strawberry does it for me though.

Back on track though, I don't want to screw up Logans thread with my innane ramblings.I would worry about the legality of it first and foremost, sound is great but too much bring the poopoo.

I live in the boonies, in a hick town, alot of the cops I know and have pulled me over for my old 240's exhaust, I have no emissions, so legality isnt my worry's, I think ill run a hanger off the 12" custom peice so it add's rigidty to the exhaust system, what'ya think?

Well rigidity is what stresses ex manifolds. Be sure there is some section after the turbo that can flex so the engine can shift without prying on the exhuast system.

IMO - fully open exhaust sounds like trash... I would (and have) at least run a 3" bullet muffler from summit, or dynomax to remove some of the nasty raspy sound. A bullet won't hurt flow, and will make the sound significantly deeper/cleaner... while still being loud. All you would have to do is get the bullet muffler, a 3" cat flange, turndown tip... and then you have a bolt on muffler for your down pipe for ~$50!

I don't want to be an "***" but you can call me "Jack". Why in the H E double hockey sticks do you want to sell an Apexi gt exhaust to make one yourself? Do you need money? I have seen and heard the gt-spec and it's almost a work of art in itself. I had the chance to get one almost new for $300 and I hate I didn't get it. The piping is a little larger than 3". If you want to fab some stuff how about making me some seat brackets or some intercooler piping. Better yet every million dollar tested part on your car sell it to me pennies to a dollar and make it yourself. I was just joking with the last statement, but seriously keep the exhaust and spend the time and money on something else JMO.. Another thought, If you hate the sound and already sold the Apexi your stuck. The grass is not always greener even when you plant it yourself..

Im kind of the same way about exhaust. Super street and or Turbo magazine do hp/db tests on mufflers every now and then. Sure there is about a 5hp difference but they are basically all the same.

So if you want to sell your GT-spec Im all for it. Just dont run anything close to a racemuffler. Its louder than you would like.

Why in the world would you want an external wastegate manifold for a t2 series turbo? All of the turbos in that family come set up for internal wastegate.

I was running open D/P just yesterday. It is loud as hell. My whole car would rattle during decel. The little extension isn't going to tone it down it will just redirect the exhaust gas from being let out directly under your car. I just have to say one thing. The money you are "saving" now will be used to pay for a loud exhaust ticket down the line. My prayers go out to you when a cop pulls up next to you at a stop light and your loud as$ muffler is pointing directly at his car.
