look, I would search if I could but I am not sure how to search for this. So don't remind me about the big bold flashing red search button.

I recently bought a pumpkin that was originally an open differential. The seller claims that it has a Nismo 1.5 way in there. Is there some way I can check for sure without opening the pumpkin up?

Um, turn one of the output shafts? If the other side spins with it, you have a LSD. If it turns the opposite direction it's an open. (or helical, but that's highly unlikely in your case)

really? that simple? so I don't need to open it up huh?

I mean I don't have another gasket and I read someone that when you open it, you need to have another or it might leak fluid

limited slips diffs spin both their outputs in the same direction. so if you spin one tire forward, the other spins forward. open diffs, the opposite wheel would have spun backwards.

now, you don't need a new gasket, but you will need to apply gasket maker. The gasket was expensive at wholesale. like $26. i said screw it, and just used some gasket maker and haven't had an issue in the two years that diff has been in my car.

If you wanted to open it up, you can but just reapply gasket maker to seal it back up. I've actually been told the diff gasket actually leaks, so many use gasket maker in place of it.

On my old s13 coupe I had a nismo 2 way in there and gasket maker was also used to seal it. Been about 3 yrs now with only about 10k miles put on and still no leaks. I wish I can convince my brother to give it back to me though : (

I don't know what this is worth right from the source; but I assure you it is a NISMO 1.5way LSD.

I put it together myself and put 200miles on it, no leaks, no excessive noise, couldn't be more perfect for what it is, it was just way too tempting to eat up rear tires.

I have never intentionally ripped anyone off in any way. Its just not me to be like that. I really hope you enjoy your LSD.
