Im currently living in Italy and yesterday I saw something that I thought was pretty interesting - a mid 80's Opel with a badge on the back that read "kadett". Does anyone know if this relates to the Nissan motor, or if it is just a coincidence?

Opel built it's own inline four for that, a 1.5 if memory serves. I'm more familiar with the 1.9 I had in my GT and Manta.
