So I just received my first ever transponder for the 407 and headed out to try it tonight. We had to make a trip from Brampton to Whitby, so it was the perfect opportunity.

When getting onto the 407 I held the thing by my rearview mirror, where they instruct you to affix it to the windshield. The damned thing didn't register as we went under the entrance. Fack!

When getting off in Whitby, I had the transponder sitting in the left corner of the dash, and still nothing. Great - there's a video toll charge for me.

When getting back on to go home, the boy held the damned thing outside his window and positioned it so we would be able to see the lights on it, but again, nothing. Grrrrrrrr.

Getting off in Brampton he did exactly the same thing and the f*** thing flashed and beeped.

WTF? If any of you guys have a transponder and a 2012 Rogue, what's the trick to this working every time? Does the Rogue have "a coated windshield", whatever that means? I'm not going to use it if I have to call these yahoos every bloody time!

Thanks.

Are there times when the transponder’s signal is not picked-up? Why does this happen?
Our remarkable electronic tolling system is over 99.9% accurate. But, like most technology, it is not perfect all of the time. In less than one per cent of the time, the signal can be missed. Here are the reasons:
* The transponder battery may be older than five years and need replacing.
* You have improperly mounted the transponder in the vehicle, sending its signal into the dashboard, passenger seat and so forth.
* Some cars have coated windshields that obstruct the signal. Some makes of cars will do this infrequently and some more often. Give us a call at 1-888-407-0407 and we will gladly assist you.
* Drivers who typically share their transponder between vehicles are more likely to not have it in their car one day and may not notice. In this case, you will receive a Video Toll Charge and will be responsible for those charges.
(When transponder users exit the highway, a properly working transponder will beep 4 times indicating the end of the trip.)

As for the coated windshield, I can't speak to the possibility of this on the 2012's, but my EZ-Pass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-ZPass works just fine mounted to my windshield.

Jenerator, you probably got a faulty transponder. You should call the company, explained to them what happened and make them give you another one.

I don't have a 2012 Rogue or live in Canada, but just like Rogue One my EZ-Pass works like a charm on my Rogue.

Is this similar to the Texas toll tag? It has a chip embedded within.
If so, mine works fine stuck on the inside of the windshield, just in front of the mirror. 2010 S360

I called the customer service line at 407 ETR and they said it's fine - if there are any video toll charges on my next bill I will need to call them and they will remove them. Will have to wait and see...apparently, their "remarkable electronic tolling system" is not able to display my trip details on their computer until the next billing cycle so I have to wait until I get my next bill!

Hopefully I won't have to call them every time (IF it happens every time), though spending a few minutes on the phone isn't as bad as taking the 401 highway anywhere in the city. Gawd that thing is ridiculous.

we have common issues like this with our EZ-PASS here in nyc/nj area. problem is they are recycled and reused once turned in by a customer. so they often are not reprogrammed/activated right, or the battery dies while waiting to be issued to a new customer.
