So I had these two kicker speakers laying around from my brother old car, and I figured that i would install them on my rear deck in my '95 240sx since i had new ones up front. Anyways after I get them all put in I turn on the car and make the sound only come from the rear with my Head unit, then i switch to the left and its all good. then when i go to the right no sound....I switched the speakers and the same speaker didn't work. When i push on the cone or tap it it works for a little bit, or if i hold the cone down sound come out. I have no idea what to do, any ideas?

Hook it up to the biggest amp you can find. Play low frequency sine wave (30hz) and see if you can get the cone & voice coil (vc) former to shoot out.

My GF's speakers in her car are blown. We took out one of them, hooked them up to my sub amp at home and I did just that. The cone and vc former tore away, shot out of the basket, got caught by the tensil leads, then the vc caught on fire! (one channel will put out nearly a kilowatt)

I have one more speaker I can do that to. I will set the video camera up next time. It was awesome!

I've heard that people hook speakers up to an extension cord and plug it into the wall. 60Hz like whoa.

When I worked at circuit city we used to do that, even raced subs once.

Thats how we used to do it. Catching speakers on fire is fun.

We did that at our store too My manager separated a magnet from a sub, and threw it up towards the roof. Didn't make it up all the way, but it stuck to the I-beam around 12 feet up. It was still there when they closed the store.

Ohms law states Amps = Volts/Ohms110/4=27.5amps (quite a bit of amps on a 15amp circuit)

Amps*volts=watts27.5*110=3,025 watts!?

4ohms in nominal impedance, resistance at rest is typically a little lower than that, displace the cone in either direction and you'll notice that the measured resistance goes up into the hundreds.

It also changes at different frequencies. 40hz will have a different value than 60hz which will be different than 80.
