Car: Thinking my friend and I have mechanical skills

Post

Hey all,

I am in a hell of a dilima. I have about 36 hrs before I have to report back to my post. I am trying to finish up my SR swap, and I am hitting one major stumbling block. It lies somewhere in the timing...I think, I'm not really sure. I've read all about the timing and how to align the CAS, and I still am getting nothing. ECU,Coil's, Coil pack, Plugs, fuel, it's all good. It just won't catch. It actually hits one time and then it shuts down. I am absolutely dumb ****ed about it. Any help whould be great.

Thnaks, Scott

Your problem probably lies with the FSM. The FSM tells you, "line up marks and your timing is set." What it doesnt tell you is that its more of a 1 in 2 or maybe 1 in 4 chance you will time it right on the first try. Even if you think your engine is at top dead center, it may not be the one for the CAS. Since there are 2 TDC's or 4TDC's depending on where the pistons are in the stroke. I think its just 2 TDC's which puts you at a 50% chance of getting it right. Basically you may just be 180 degrees off on the timing and turn try rotating the CAS while someone else cranks the car.

i would just say remove the cas. turn the blade that engages the cam half a turn [180 degrees] and reinstall.

I had the same problem, marks all looked good but wouldn't catch. I took the CAS out and the marks were perfect, so I rolled the engine around 1 more time using a breaker bar on the crank pulley, and reinstalled it, making sure the dots were good again. Fired right off, timing was dead on.

yea, the problem you where having was that the engine was on the exhaust stoke. There are little marks on the cam gears that should be up when the car is on the compresion stroke. I'll try anyways, I hope this works, cross your fingers guys. Thanks Scott
