What's up fellas. I'm purchasing a '93 J30t (black on black with new timing chain, 110,XXX miles) as my daily driver. I really want to swap the VG30DETT into the car, and I would love to have the 5-speed from the Z, too, but I hear this is asking too much of the JPY32 chassis. I'm going to get underneath my friend's TT Z soon and do some measurements and compare the findings to the J (this will be my second J and my fifth Nissan) but I'd like to hear some input on this subject, anyway. Can the twin turbo swap be done? Even if I must keep it in automatic form, I still want to do this swap. Help me, please! There is almost no info on the Leopard 'round these parts! Thanks for the replies that will surely come...

Im not sure the TT would fit, but if im not mistaken, the VG30DET from the JDM leopard should bolt in no problem. the piping would be much easier to fit since its stock-like. im not sure about the transmission though, but im sure a 5spd swap would be no trouble.

Apparently it won't fit. I asked about this for my J30 Maxima, which everyone thought was an Infiniti J30, and they told me it wouldn't fit in the Infiniti. But, yes, as Megaseth said, the VG30DET from the Leopard should fit fine.

Is the J30 front or rear wheel drive? You'd have to use the transmission from a J30 or a third or second gen Maxima if its front drive, as the Z is rear drive.

Mr. Doom the J30 is indeed Rear Wheel Drive. And though it looks like an over grown altima IMO it is a really sweet car when you get to looking at it.

I've always liked the car, I just don't know a lot about it. I like the looks, aside from the trunk and taillights. I like it even more knowing it's rear wheel drive.

The I30's were the Maximas, not J.

With the right spoiler I think the rear end could be boxed up enouh to make it look very nice.

No, J30 is the chassis designation for the third gen Maxima, it has NOTHING to do with Infiniti. See what I mean about that thread confusing everyone?

here we go again.

the vg30dett will bolt into the J30. you then have to wire the car and mount the intercoolers.

the vg30dett comes in auto or manual, so you have a choice. if you go manual, your gonna need to ditch the cruise control, becuase the actuator sits right where the clutch master cylinder will.

this swap has been done before, and i cant imagine it being that difficult. you will need custom exhaust though.

ive been researching this for a LONG time. i originally wanted an rb26, but then i realized that the amount of money that the rb26 would cost equals a built twin turbo vh45 with a custom bellhousing for a T56 trans.

if you go manual, you will need to tighten up the suspension. not cheap [requires custom parts]

as long as you are capable, this swap should be no problem.

BTW, the VG30DET from japan will not work too well. the single turbo is posistioned on the drivers side, where the steering shaft will most likely interfere. [remember, RHD in japan]

i didnt even take into consideration the turbo placement on the DET...nuts...couldnt you just convert it, or rather move it to the other side? i guess with all the work in doing that you might as well just drop a DETT in.
