I am hooking up a new stereo, and I am only getting < 1 volt through the blue-with-white-dots accessory wire. The battery leads are 12V. This is with the car (s13se) turned off with the key in the "accessory" position.

Wire from the harness to the headunit or wire from the headunit to external amps and such?

I put on a new + battery terminal; added a 4 gauge power lead for a 200 watt (rms) amp, which will soon be split to a second 200W amp; and had to slightly alter a harness that screwed onto the old + battery terminal (soldered a wire to run to the new terminal).

So, the problem is fixed?

The wire to the headunit. That last post was what I did for the install, before I noticed the problem. Also, I put in a Japanese analog gauge cluster (all I could find on EBay at the time). It seems to work except the dimmer, and a couple lights that shouldn't be on.

In regards to the gauge dimmer, there are qa few posts about gauges and lights. It seems to be a common issue, as the wiring almost seems backwards logically.

Might be worth either searching or scanning down through the threads.

try the solid blue wire it should work beautifully. the blue with the white stripe is the power antenna. you should get voltage from it when you use the "tuner".

>Try the solid blue wire, it should work beautifully. My bad, I wasn't clear. It IS the solid blue one that I'm talking about (it has pianted silver dots on it; not white like I said). The wire through which I am getting a reading of about .99 volts is definitely the accessory wire from the harness that plugged into the oem stereo, which the previous owner cut to plug into a new HU (that worked beautifully when I got the car a few years ago, but has since died). I'll have to check the forums on the gauge cluster issue (which I've been meaning to do anyway). That, the + battery terminal (and related wiring described above), and new spark plugs/wires are the only electrical variables that have changed since I had a working stereo (with no external amp). Could I have fried that red harness that screwed onto the positive terminal? I don't even know what that thing does. I was careful, but did the job with a way overpowered iron that has only one setting.

Check your fuses as well...

Light Green = Amplifier turn onBlue = 12v accessory (main power, only on when key is in on position)Red w/Yellow stripe = Illumination - (not used)Red w/Blue stripe = Illumination + (not used)Black w/Red stripe = Power Antenna turn onRed w/Black stripe = 12v battery constant for HU memory

Yes, this is a commonly missed trouble shooting step. Check fuses at all fuse boxes, in the kick panel and under the hood then check your voltage. Does the cigarette lighter next to the power mirror switch power up with the accessory position? Have you tested the voltage there?
