That's entirely beside the point. We're not recommending OEM parts over American made Big 3 parts because we don't drive big 3 cars. We drive Infinitis. So there are no American made big 3 OEM parts for our cars...Victor wrote:I don't know why some posters are touting Infiniti OEM electrical parts. From all the post I have read and my own experience on my J30T infiniti electrical parts are much less reliable than American made big three electrical parts. and cost more to boot. They definitely don't know how to make reliable solder connections. .
The recommendation of Nissan/Infiniti OEM is being made over AFTERMARKET parts, some of which in the experience of many of us are nowhere near as reliable as OEM. Early-90s Nissans absolutely had solder issues and other electronics problems. Yet despite that, OEM is STILL better than aftermarket in many cases. So it gets my recommendation. Regardless of solder quality, 9 years on an OEM alternator beats the snot out of 1.5 years on an aftermarket one.
You can buy rebuild kits as well if you're comfortable tearing into your alternator yourself.Victor wrote:In La Habra, California there is a generator shop that will rebuild your alternator with new bearings and new diodes and voltage regulator for about a hundred dollars. I would expect most places would have a similar shop.
