I finally got my engine back from the machine shop. I had the entire rotating assembly balanced out including the crank, flywheel, pulley, rods, and pistons. I was pretty surprised to see how off the weight of the Arias pistons were right out of the box. A total of 14 grams were taken off the various parts of the motor.

The machinist was a cool guy, he showed me how they do the balancing of the crank, flywheel, pulley all together and how to balance the rods & pistons. Pretty cool stuff.

I also found out what destroyed my last motor.... The last flywheel i had on that motor was VERY warped and out of balance. The shop that assembled my last bottom end didnt reccomend a balance since it was a 4 cyl with 5 main caps..... but the ka's have a girdle.... so once the machinist put the old flywheel on his balance machine it was pretty messed up and out of balance. I had a spare flywheel so i resurfaced it and he balanced that one just fine.

He had to add a bit of weight to the crank counter weights on each end.

On with the pics.

here's the balance sheetHere's where he shaved off a bit of metal to balance the ends. This is a pic of the Arias pistons after balance.... He removed a total of 7 grams from 3 of the pistons to make all 4 the same weight.Took a bit out of the flywheel...and the crank pulley.

I will continue to update this thread as i assemble the motor.

the setup will include: KA24E-TArias 9:1 comp. pistonsstock rods (shooting for 250hp)Garrett t3 super 60 .48 a/r turbineClevite bearingsrps street clutchColt cam C.404.HTurbo regrind3-angle valve job, minor P&P, port matched I&EJRC FMICrx-7 460cc injectorsECU tuned by deviousKA and more stuff that i forgot to mention

Fred is the man.

Looking good Shawn, I bet you cant wait to get that all assembled!

EDIT: Hey, is Fred doing crank work now there in his little shop (as in grinding machine)? If I remember right he was looking into some new equipment, but doesnt exactly have a lot of room in there.

haha yeah his shop is pretty small. From what i heard he doesnt grind cranks in house because the person he was in business before took the machine when they split up. My crank was already micropolished so he didnt do any work with it.

I should have the engine fully assembled in about 2 weeks. I will be breakin it in NA this time...

Well its done and it actually runs. I did all the work myself and am quite satisfied with the result. This is the first motor i have built and am actually suprised that it started on the first try

I ditched the stock rods and got a set of the turbo240 rods/K1 They are very nice and fit great. You can't even see the line from where the rod cap are cut in half. They are great quality and i def. reccomend them to anyone shooting for under 500 HP and wants to save some money.

I also added all ARP studs in the motor. The turbo240 rods come with ARP studs in them so i decided to get the main and head studs as well. I actually broke one of my stock main bolts when i was doing the final torque so that was enough for me to upgrade them.

I will break the motor in NA for now. I want to make sure the rings seat and everything is running great before i slap the turbo on there. I will prob. wait till i hit about 1500 miles then it should be good to go.

ON WITH THE PICS!starting to assemble all the rods/pistonsfirst rod in theregetting closerfelpro HG with ARP studshead on with timing gear all togetherColt cam turbo cam regrind. almost done....clutch on.. and going in the carand she's in there

thanks guys. I am still doing the initial break-in (30 miles) and will do a quick comp. check to see how things are sealing up. I know it won't be fully sealed up in there but may as well check now. Its running great soo far.

Before you put your turbo back on, try to get to a dyno to get some #'s. To see what the cam does and see how much hp is gained overall by port and polish etc.

ya know i woud really like to dyno it NA but the nearest dyno is about 1.25 hours away and i am not sure on the cost. If they do have a cheap dyno session i will prob jump on that.

I did some more cleanup in the engine bay today and set the timing correctly. It's running AWESOME and i am amazed at how quick it goes with only 30 miles on it soo far

Awesome Shawn!

I can't wait to go for another ride.. Sucks about the injectors though, that would have been awesome to have it running this weekend.

also, your wiring looks beautiful....

hahah i am not finished with the wiring. I am using a taurus fan with a thermo switch and a 40A relay so the wiring got a little confusing.

Gabe tuned the ECU and it is freaking amazing. Gabe really knows his stuff cause this tune is WAY better than the previous JWT ecu i had. The car runs great in boost and has a solid 11 a/f ratio. My iacv is bad so that made it hard to tune the lower rpm's... so i am just going to eliminate the iacv. I was having spark blow out issues as well... so that needs to be taken care of. Other than that... it is awesome and pretty damn quick at 10 psi.

couple pics of the tuning process. This is the board that burns the tune on the chipNew chip tuned for 460cc injectors, z32 maf and completely custom for my setup. He is amazing at what he does... and i couldn't believe how much smoother this ecu runs than the previous JWT ecu i ran.

How did you go about getting your tune? Does he sell them or whats the process of me obtaing one in the future Congrats again man
