Hey, I waas wondering if anyone has actually tried one of the one sided intercoolers on a rb20 or 25 with the stock IM. They look like the easiest route but they also look like pressure drop and lag would be an issue.

Anyone?

A good one-ended chilly should have an opposing end tank that directs the air to make the 180 degree turn as smothly as possible, like this HKS unit. Those look about as efficient as a banjo fitting. Better than nothing to be sure but far from ideal. You can drive a nail with a frozen salmon but a hammer works better.

BLITZ makes an intercooler like that, its more common than the HKS one, I see the BLITZ on eBay every now and then... complete kit too!

I have an intercooler like the Godspeed but the core and the end tanks were purchased separate. My core is a spearco ... it flows really well and boost kicks in fast. Pipes are much shorter also.

basically the same identical one im running, works awesome! response is basically the same as the stock side mount, i only needed another 4 feet total of piping to actually make it work!

My concern with the godspeed one which is also used on many 1g dsms by dejon and road race, but with the way the s13 is:

There isnt really any room under the mouth on the pignose. After the mouth, its bottom of bumper like 1/4 inch, then air... To make the core right in the mouth of the car, you would have to have the IC hanging underneath the body which is no good for business. It just looks really hard to mount and have optimal cooling in the stock s13 bumper.

Anyone have pics that show otherwise?

Can you get a pic of straight on in the mouth? To be optimal, I would want all of the core showing with no room for air around it.

Also it looks like the 91-94 style bumper has more room below. It doesnt look like you are utilizing that room though, but with the pig if I put the core right in the mouth, the end tank would have to be cut through the bumper.

you cant use the entire opening do to the fact the side/end tanks hang down 3 inches lower than the actual core, if i was to place the entire core in the mouth my side/end tank would hang only a few inches from the street.. id rather not do that.......... also most ppl cut their front bumper up higher so the opening is larger... id rather keep the sleeper style...

But the end result of not putting the core in the airflow is an intercooler only working at about 70% efficiency.

Krayton,

Did you notice any lag over the stock side mount? Or did you ever use the side mount to begin with? Have you noticed any drawbacks to using the dual pass style?

i orginally had a fmic and ran the over the radiator setup. i didnt notice anything really. but at the same time installing that, i also turned up the boost and tuned for 340.

so cant really say for sure.

I will sell mine. It is a McKinney. Or trade it for a brand new(quality, not cheap) straight thru style. I am building a race manifold and no longer need the same side intercooler.
