I got a lot of my answer from searching, but heres one I didnt find:

I have the RB R32 cluster, but it doesnt have any of the plugs on it, just the female slots for them. They are all labeled, so Im thinking maybe I could use the KA tach plug and rewire it if the wires arent matched up. Id rather use the RB tach in the KA cluster than use the whole KA cluster. So, what will I need to scavenge from the RB cluster to make this work?

Another thing is, the tach doesnt move at all on my 89 5-speed, even though Im sure I hooked up the cluster plug fine. The Temp gauge works, so I know its grounded, I just dont have a signal going to the tach. Is it beacause its SOHC and wont read at all? I remember reading on here that the KA tach reads 50% higher, but I dont even have a signal.

Thanks peeps, and any help is appreciated.

i did exactly that on my '91. unbolt the rb tach from its cluster and swap into the ka cluster. the rb's tach will bolt on, but you will have to trim some of the plastic edge. the only thing is, i'm still waiting for some parts before i actually start up the motor, so I have not confirm how accurate it will be by just swaping the tachs. i don't really care about mismatched color in the cluster :)

I swapped the tach as well into the KA cluster. I swapped the white needle out of the KA cluster for the orange needle so the colors match. the only thing is the hole where the stock boost gauge was, but that can be closed up with ease.

will the SOHC give a signal to the RB tach? What about the wires, do they all match up?

I swaped my Tach on my 89 too. My tach is off by 500 rpm. I thought it was reving out to 8k but it's really 7500 says the Apexi revspeed meter.

sweet, so it will give a signal. Thats good news, thanks man. You just did the yellow/red wires, right? The plug was wired ok?

And is there any way to calibrate it to read right?

Yeah it's just the dash plug you have to wire up for the TACH. I think you can. It's only off by that 500 when it gets up there in the RPM. it's close at idle.
