I have read all the posts about the homelink mirror options for the Rogue, and I understand that the Altima mirror will work along with a mirror from gentex. What I am not clear on is weather or not any additional wiring is needed. I have the opportunity to buy an OEM 2008 Altima mirror cheap, but it is just the mirror, no extra wiring. Does anyone know if I will need any additional wiring or is it plug and play? I have a 2010 SL with premium pkg and moonroof

Its not plug-n-play... but its not difficult either. If you read the other threads about the Homelink mirror you know that when you have a sunroof you can easily access the wiring via the access panel in the headliner. The Homelink mirrors have a special wire harness that "plugs" into the back of the mirror. You need to have the correct wire harness "with" plug. If the mirror you are buying was removed from a wrecked vehicle and the wire harness was cut at off at the headliner, thats okay... as long as you have the plug and a couple inches of wire to work with (assuming you can neatly solder and splice wires.) Even if it didn't come from a wreck... ideally the mirror you are buying would include the wiring harness.

WIRE HARNESS SHOWING GENTEX PLUG

If the mirror does not come with a wire harness or you would rather not have to splice it a salvaged harness, you can buy one aftermartket. This guy is a major seller of Gentex mirrors on eBay, is very knowledgable and easy to work with. Here's a link to his harness kit:

In addition to the kit you will also need the wire harness cover. The cover hids the wires leading from the back of the mirror and running up the windshield. THe same eBay serller above also sells the wire covers.

WIRE HARNESS COVER

Once you have the mirror and wiring harness all you have to do is splice 3 wires inside the access panel. Thanks to Nicoclub member mstrmstr... the wiring connections are as follows: (per his instructions in this thread)

zerothread?id=307929

________________________________________________________There is a connector there with the right wiring and its a fidget/fumble to hook up. I found it way ez when I just dropped the map light assy(clips are ez to see- just depress with small screwdriver) This harness then can be completely removed to work on on the bench.

Wiring- 1.Battery HOT Harness color is red... connect to Gentex yellow.

2.Ignition switchedharness color is pink... connect to Gentex red

3. Ground Black/black.

Don't connect RED to RED.. its Wrong.________________________________________________________

thanks for the great info, and I do have one more question, will the wiring harness cover that comes with the Rogue work because I see that I have one that covers the wires running up the windshield

If you already have a wire harness cover in your Rogue then I'd say there is a real good chance it will work with the Altima mirror. Nissan uses the same mirror manufacturer across its model lines. Actually, the fact that the wire cover is black, and the mirror obscures most of the cover anyway, even if it wasn't a perfect fit... its doubtful anyone would notice. If you think about it, other than you, who is going to get into your car and inspect the wire harness cover to see if its a perfect fit. I'd hold off ordering a cover and try using the one you have. Worse case you have to buy one later on. No sense buying one you may not need (and won't be able to return.)

yeah, thats what I'm going to do, I ordered the mirror and the harness kit, wish me luck! I assume that I will have to cut the current wire harness off at some point under the headliner in order to wire up the new one right?

Not exactly. There is no mirror wire harness tucked away in the headliner waiting for you to install a homelink/compass mirror. You're actually just splicing into the wiring that is used for the operation of the dome lights etc. Luckily the wires happen to be conveniently available via the access panel (or accessible if you drop the dome light assembly).

Battery Power - The RED wire - connects to a continuous 12V source ) This allows the Homelink buttons to work all the time, even when the car is turned off. (i.e. so you can open and close your garage door with the mirror buttons but without having to put your keys in the ignition and turning the car on.)
Ignition Power - The PINK wire - connects to a circuit where 12V is present only when the ignition is turned on. (i.e, switched power). This switched power is used to power the compass and control the auto dim feature.
Ground - The BLACK wire - because a ground (-12VDC is necessary to complete a DC circuit.

Done! Thanks for the help Elton! I got a 2008 Altima homelink mirror on ebay for $75, plus the wiring harness for about $25, and I did the install myself, everything works great! Total install time is less than an hour, it was much easier than I thought
