hey, i am about to change my 1995 auto 240 to a 5speed. i figure while im getting this done, i might as well buy an lsd and have that installed as well. so i was looking them up..i saw one on ebay taken out of a s15 5speed, would this one fit into a 95 240 with the KA? and then i found a list from cusco, they were selling lsd's for $990, but they had them listed as one way and two way, does anyone know the difference between a one way lsd and a two way lsd? thanks for comments =)

does anyone recomend a good lsd? the cusco were sorta expensive, i went on phantomgrip.com and found one for 350, but it looks a whole lot different then the actual lsd, says something about an lsd conversion kit.

is there any disadvantage to a two way lsd?

cornering/turning is definitely affected, somewhere in the "makes it hard" range

phantomgrip is just that.....you don't know if its gripping or not...by me we call it a phantomslip. I don't have one, but i've only heard bad things about them.

You can use an LSD from a 300zx, J30, S13/S14. That would be the cheapest route.

S15 lsd won't work because its a helical lsd...you need the transmission to match. You need a Viscious lsd (VLSD).

If you want to go big dog, then get the Cusco, or a KAAZ lsd....if not, just get a factory one off the cars stated above.

yeah I've heard 1.5 is the most reasonable for driving with, but I'm not authority either....

The LSDs in all Japanese cars are all made by the same company, a subsidiary of Hitachi.

OK, a VLSD will NOT wear out. the parts dont touch, and Im not sure but I think(although you might be right..) there are different LSD mfg in japan....a VLSD works by heating up silicone fluid, not via a clutch-type action(which are the ones that CAN wear out).

it would be very tough to wear out a VLSD man...like in the "even racing it'd be ****ing tough" range...anyways, the 2 way LSD will be great if your michael shumacher or something....IE its great if you know how to "use" it, and things, since it will cahnge braking into turns drastically, and change things when acellerating out of it...from what I've heard it makes the car super touchy....

actually... one of mazda's VLSDs is known for failing in such a way that it starts doing a very good impression of an open diff (the one in early (90-93) miatas) not saying nissan's will but it's perfectly possible for a VLSD to not limit slip as well as it did new as it ages...

and also... a helical type LSD (like a Torsen) would work fine IF there was one with the right input shaft that would fit in the car... and... IIRC the S15 diff can be kept if you back swap to the 5 speed.... so.. the diff should be back-swappable into S13/S14...

Ya sorry it took my awhile and someone else already got it for me...you don't really want a 2 way..a 1.5 is a great compromise..however I don't know about all this wearing out of lsds they're talking about...it'd have to take a lot to wear it out right?..not like some 10,000 mile item...but more like a 150,000 mile item right?

A clutch type LSD will wear out it's clutches.... and if you have to pull it to rebuild that part... may as well do new bearings and all that good stuff...

It'd be pretty hard to **** a VLSD up..the only problems with them i've heard is related to piss poor maintenance...

Im sure you can break them, because I have also seen it done, but on the subject of "wearing out" its damn hard to do.....if maintained correctly.

my bad, shoulda noted that...alan from ballanced performance talked to me a bit about it and said hes only seen one VLSD break/not function correctly since they've been open, or since hes been modifying cars...

anyways, good info thanks for the extra info guys.-chet
