"For 2013, Nissan will also continue to sell the existing Altima coupe, based on the previous-generation sedan. "

Either the 2014 is going to be really special...or gone  .

Interesting to read of all the 2013 features.

Best wishes

my guess is that there will be no altima coupe in 2014.... they have already limited the 2013 coupe to 2.5 only, CVT only.... slowly decrease the demand over the years and then get rid of it... my guess is that they will come out with something that will compete in the small RWD coupe market... but midsize FWD coupes may be limited to honda and chrystler from the point forward.... :(

Regrettably, you may be correct.

I went all the way to Nissan corporate in an effort to discover Coupe sales numbers (all other sources only enumerate total Altima sales). Via email, they suggested I contact my dealer  .

Best wishes.

I have mixed feelings now, knowing the fate of the 2013 coupe. I sold my 2011 3.5 SR a couple months ago. Now that I know they aren't building any more with the V6, I'm saddened, and also feel like I should have held onto it. It's nice having the rare car on the block. So, I guess the moral of the story is, if you have the 3.5 coupe hang onto it.

The 3.5 was never a bulk seller for the coupe or sedan to begin with, so this doesn't really surprise me.

I can tell you that Honda has revised the Accord and they're selling a coupe (with V6 available). Hyundai is entering the market with a Sonata coupe (which will compete in this segment). Nissan is paying close attention to Hyundai as they're the manufacturer to beat right now (Toyota and Honda have a legacy reputation which is the only reason they're still selling the Camry and Accord well).

Nissan was always coy about the Altima Coupe to begin with. No reason to panic just yet. I have seen manufacturers do this (limited trim availability for a model year) because they need to allocate production resources to a new model.

Also Mazda is adding new competition in this segment with a Mazda 6 Coupe, so I don't know if that means get out now in fear that that market may become over saturated or stay in there and fight it out.

So after being on the nissan website and seeing only the 4cylinder version starting at 25k what does this mean? can i expect that the 3.5's value went up a bit, just because it's the last model year to have the big engine? what about service? will it be a pain going to the dealer getting things done because they don't have the parts? and i'm assuming the aftermarket part world with dry up soon too and there won't be much more made for the 3.5 performance.

No reason to panic - the 3.5 V6 will have parts available for a LONG time. That motor is used in so many things Nissan makes.

As far as value, don't hold your breath. It's an Altima in the grand scheme of the car market. They won't retain value any better than any bulk seller regardless of the trim.

The aftermarket world was also not as strong for the coupe, but we'll see how that pans out. I wouldn't expect to see it dry up anytime soon, but I would also expect a downward trend in new parts available.

Racingline and sometimes Stillen will be the only places you might see parts coming from from now on.

But yeah, if there's one thing I've learned in my intense modding is that Nissan built our car on the cheap and made some stupid decisions here and there.

@ XenonSE-R thanks for clearing that up for me. All i ever wanted for this car was a NISMO intake (sigh).

@ Ranga14 what do you mean by made some stupid decisions? what did you find?

My FOM was just at the dealer and I asked him about the coupe for 2014. He said it is discontinued, the market was shrinking for that car.

I don't see how he would know before any of us on staff knew. The only thing Nissan corporate has made official for 2014 is the GT-R. The rest will cycle through by this time next year.

XenonSE-R,

Didn't realize you are on staff.

Occurs to me Coupe sales numbers might be telling, but everything I've seen only shows Altima totals, without breaking out the Coupe. Have you seen any stats?

Somewhere (?) I saw a reference to the Altima Facebook site where a company rep (?) said something to the effect (?) that a redesigned Coupe is coming in 2014. At the risk of starting a rumor, has anyone seen the post I'm so specifically referring to :-)? Unable to find anything on Altima Facebook.

Best wishes.

I only play the staff card because there are several of us on NICO that actually work for Nissan North America, so we tend to get the word on things pretty quickly, given they're official and not rumors. The dealer network doesn't tend to get these things any faster than we do.

Only reason why I have reservations about this is that the 1st gen coupe came out one model year after the sedan's revision. Given that Nissan has limited the models available for the coupe for 2013 means one of two things -

1) They're going to kill it, simple as that.
2) They're allocating resources to design and production of the new one, thus limiting what they produce for the existing one.

I'm leaning toward #2 myself. Otherwise we'd see them stamping out whatever they could stamp out to finish out the model. I have been wrong before, however, so I guess time will tell.

IF they decide to kill the Altima coupe, I will only be OK with it if they do it in the name of freeing up resources to build a BRZ/FRS competitor.

If they were going to stomp out the Coupe altogether why leave the 2.5 in place for a year? For this reason I'd lean towards your option #2 as well. Unfortunately NICO HQ has not received any details on the development of the Coupe and/or its demise. Perhaps the 3.5 will be reserved for a killer BRZ/FRS competitor. We shall see!

XenonSE-R

Thanks for you thoughtful reply.

No doubt it's all about the numbers, but who do you suggest Coupe enthusiasts contact to express our feelings in this matter (at the risk of your getting on someone's bad side for crashing an email inbox :-).

I'm with shift_coupe on Option #2.

Best wishes

I'm hoping he is wrong also, wasn't trying to cause trouble just was poking around for answers.

It's gone, we don't sell enough to maintain the extra line so we dropped it after 13.

Nissan is bringing back Datsun so they're making the Maxima and the Altima and the Sentra all look alike and make Datsun be the coupe crowd.

Hello all,

Was back on the Nismo home page, a place I seldom go (I recommend the occasional visit) and came upon this article, which has implications for the future (if any) Coupe:

http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/resurr ... t-s16.html

Also a good article about a new concept in rim protectors. I'm having free samples sent.

Best wishes and Happy New Year!

Not sure how I'm gonna feel if they do kill it, that would mean owning another car that went extinct soon after I bought it. I had a 4g eclipse prior to getting my AC.
