so i mentioned recently that my spedometer and power steering were acting up. well the good news is my spedometer is back in working condition, however, today the power steering goes out completly and at the same time the heat decides that it is no longer going to work. not only that but then it overheats. im not sure whats up yet but hopefully she is running soon. i mean hey what do you expect from a 16 year old car with 180000 on it. better get the wrenches out.

Power steering will become non-existent if the speedo is reading 0.

As for the new issues, my guess is the belt tensioner seized, snapped the power steering pump belt and both the power steering pump and fan stopped being turned, thus no power steering and an overheat.

You'll want to change the oil and transmission fluid assuming you were able to shut it down bewfore the engine "boiled".

after poping the hood and throwing it up on the lift the tensioner siezeing was the problem. i sure hope no damage was done to the engine. what do you mean though by saying if the speedo reads zero the power steering will not work? when i sit in park and idle the speedo reads zero and this does not effect the power steering. thanks for the help

Rex really means the PS speed sensor.

Sounds like you have to perform some deferred maintenance on your PS, cooling system and accesory belt drive system fast.
