Me and a buddy, who will do anything for free beer, put in a full day on the 94Q. New plugs (previous post), new Tokicos all around, rear sway bar, fresh bushings, oil change, fuel filter, flushed the radiator, cleaned the TB and intake, and mounted the new wheels and tires. A well invested 10 hours.

The old girl seems quite happy with her new shoes and is looking good.

Next oil change will include new brakes and nylon bushings for the sway bars.

Obviously, I've decided not to sell her.

The tires I put on are 245/45-16s. They are just a little too short, about %6 or so. The car feels like I just changed the rear to about 4.00 or 4.01.

This deffinitly woke up the off idle performance of this car!

Palmerwmd, with the brake mods you mention did you also use the 300ZX calipers? If so, any pointers being that is my next project.

I think I can fit a keg in the back seat. Probably cans or bottles only in the trunk. Time for a road trip.:D

Wow!

After driving the '94Q with the shorter tires (245/45-16s) for a few days I am impressed with the change in the car's character. The low end improvement is obvious. It is probably comparable to the earlier Qs with the shorter first gear ratio.

Yes, I understand the engine is reving higher and the speedo is off. I also understand better push when I feel it.

The new Tokikos all around plus the rear sway bar and fresh bushings tightened things up appreciably. Even Wifey Dear noticed.

If you are willing to live with the trade-offs, consider a little shorter tire. Its alot cheaper than a new rear end.

840-847 revs per mile vs 800 [215/65/15] is 5% roughly the same as the downward gear changes in 94-96Q.

This size appears to only come in : 94 or less [1477-1300 pound load rating] lower than the oem minimum 95 index of 1521 pounds?

Rolling diameter is critical as a smaller tire has less time away from the road to COOL at the same speed so it runs hotter thus has less life and faster wear [all things being equal].

I am always promoting using bigger tires [larger diameter stronger] with a higher than the factory minimum load rating to enhance performance, safety, and life.....having a little extra reserve is always good as you never know how close the factory cut it.

255/50/16 is a great size and usually has a 100-160 pound greater load capacity than the oem tires with the same diameter.

Yes, you are right about the 94 load rating. (Yoko AVS Intermediates)

Judging from the way these tires stick and howl, they will not last long. Next set will be 255/50-16s. In the mean time, I'm grinnin' like a monkey.

I have used several sets of Yoko A008s on street Zcars and managed to get about 8K out of a set. I was rather proud of myself.

I've been grinning like a monkey for 2 years and have been trying to get other people to buy them.... but everybody chickens out.

:chicken :chicken :chicken

Glad to see you like them. I'm about to order another set for next summer, just gotta find the closet space to keep them inside so they don't get hard outside in the cold!!

:rockon :rockon :rockon

My 235/60/15 did get pretty hard sitting in the closet on my back porch.... but they've been fine all summer. Still very quiet and sticky, just not as sticky as before. But getting a little too slick for rain... so back to AVS dB tires soon!

That is one heck of a day's work. I'll supply any brand of beer you want and a bottle of Patrone to chase it down for all that! Really, how many hours?

If you want the Yoko AVS Intermediates you had better hurry. They are being replaced by the ES100. I have no experience with that tire.

This wasn't very hard. I owned a 300ZXTT for a couple of years and the plugs and the shocks are almost identical. The hardest part was installing the rear sway bar.

Alot of time (and beer) was consumed "bench racing".

And the ES100 doesn't come in a proper size for the Q stock wheel, closest match is 215/60/15, 94 load rating... which would probably work OK, but wear out faster.
