ok, so i got the car like this about a year ago, when i turn the key, the start clicks once and nothing happens, i turn the key again and the same thing happens. eventually it starts every time, never has it continued more then 10 or so times without starting. other times it starts right away, but mostly the issue occurs 3-7 times every time i start it.

New battery
New starter
New plugs wires cap and rotor
battery ground is good and battery cables seem to be fine.
when the car does start, it starts perfectly.

I don't have a visual on this but it sounds like the Bendix of the starter is coming out, but not spinning. not sure if that helps. sound is coming from the starter for sure. Please help... no matter how cool your car looks, if it doesn't start right it seems like a piece of crap ><

if the solenoid of the starter is connected to the throw out rod for the Bendix it will "come out" ..it sounds like you need another starter . the solenoid only makes the connection between the battery cable that leads to it and the wire that goes to the armature . or the starter brushes are sitting on the mica that separates the conductors to spin the bendix. also if you have a very greasy engine the starter might not get a good ground . if you didn't clean the connections this could also happen hope this makes sense to you hope it helps

there is also the starter relay attached to passenger fender behind battery. Blue relay. Honestly sounds like the starter tho. Just about everything affordable is reman'd and it's quite possible to get one that just doesn't work right. Swap starters if under warranty and consider the relay. shouldn't really malfunction the way you described, but it's the only part of the starting circuit you didn't mention. Wait, the neutral safety switch also. 2 different switches in the circuit you didn't mention. Best of luck

The only reason why im a somewhat confident its not the starter is because i changed it out and it is doing the exact same thing. Both before and after the new one was installed. The grounds are pretty solid, i have the main battery ground to the intake manifold, and i have another from that same spot on the intake to the frame. and i have two grounding straps from the motor, one to the fire wall, one to the frame. All sanded and cleaned. I will see if the starter is still under warranty and get a new one >< thanks guys!

That exact scenario has happened to me and guess what. Both starters were bunk. If you have the warranty just swap it one more time. Please. Thank You.
